Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Blaise Haba Scores OT Game-Winner As Men's Soccer Tops Saint Anselm

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer senior Blais Haba's (West Haven, Conn.) goal in the 92nd minute of play gave the Owls a 1-0 win in overtime against Saint Anselm in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at Jess Dow Field. With the win, the Owls improve to 3-5-4 overall and 2-4-2 in NE10 play while Saint Anselm drops to 6-6-0 overall and 2-6-0 in the conference.
HABA GOAL

Both teams played to a 0-0 tie through regulation despite the Owls holding an 11-to-2 shots-on-goal advantage. Haba's goal gives the Owls their first overtime win of the season and ends a four-game winless streak.
  HOW IT HAPPENED
Southern controlled the ball for most of the game, and continued to do so in overtime. Kevin Van der Pol took a pass from Daniel Utgaard in the center of the field just above the box and sent it wide. Haba, on the right flank facing the Hawks' goal, stopped it with his right foot and then stepped around his defender. Haba sent the shot on goal – between a defender and Saint Anselm's goalie- where it found the opposite post and tucked in for the game-winner.

NOTES
  • Ian Shannon stopped all three shots-on-goal that he saw in the night cap to record his first career shutout and improve to 1-1-0 on the year.
  • Haba's goal was his first of the season and second of his career.
