Men's Basketball's Comeback Bid Falls Short To Caldwell

CALDWELL, N.J.. –  The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team fell to Caldwell University, 78-67, in a non-conference matchup at Corino Court. The Owls fall to 1-2 while the Cougars improve to 1-2.
 
Juniors Khalil Richard (Baltimore, Md.) and C.J. Seaforth (Hamden, Conn.) both had a game-high with 20 points. Richard was 7-13 from the field and 2-4 from three-point range, while Seaforth was 7-11 from the field and 4-7 from beyond the arc while also grabbing a game-tying high seven rebounds. Taurus Adams II (Milwaukee, Wisc.) scored in double figures as well with 10 points. 

How It Happened
  • Caldwell took a 5-4 lead during the games first three minutes of the game and never gave it up. They eventually stretched their lead to 29-18 with 6:19 remaining, their largest of the first half, before Southern cut the lead to 33-26 heading into halftime.
  • Caldwell started the second half going on a 21-11 during the first six minutes to take a 54-37 lead, their largest of the game. 
  • Southern was able to cut the lead to 66-64 with 1:34 remaining by going on a 27-12 run, highlighted by 11 points from Richard and 10 points from Seaforth.
  • Caldwell would go 9-10 from the free throw line over the last minute and a half to seal the victory.

Notes
  • Seaforth has now scored at least 20 points in four consecutive games dating back to last season.
  • Seaforth's four three-pointers were a season-high for a Southern player.  
  • Richard's 20 points off the bench makes it two consecutive games a Southern player as scored at least 20 points in a game they did not start. 
  • Greg Jones (Bronx, N.Y.) recorded three blocked shots, a season-high for a Southern player. 
  • The Owls had 16 fast break points compared to only six by Caldwell.
