Men's Basketball Defeats Queens College, 75-60

QUEENS, N.Y. –  The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team defeated Queens College, 75-60, in a non-conference matchup at Fitzgerald Gymnasium in Flushing, N.Y.
 
Five Owls scored in double figures, led by senior Taurus Adams II (Milwaukee, Wisc.) who had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while redshirt junior Isaiah Boissard (Walden, N.Y.) also had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Junior C.J. Seaforth (Hamden, Conn.) added 13 points on 5-8 shooting, junior Gregory Jones (Bronx, N.Y.) had 12 points and eight rebounds, and junior Khalil Richard (Baltimore, Md.) chipped in 10 points off the bench. Zack Penn (New Hartford, Conn.) also had 10 rebounds off the bench, giving Southern three players with at least 10 rebounds.

How It Happened
  • After a slow start from both teams, Southern led Queens 10-9 with 12:51 to go in the first half.
  • The Owls upped their lead to 20-13 with 9:30 to go in the first half as Seaforth scored eight of Southern's next 10 points.
  • After a three-pointer from Queens, the Owls then went on an 18-2 run to take a 38-18 lead with 2:47 left. Richard had nine of the 18 points. Southern would take a 42-26 lead into halftime.
  • The Owls opened the second half outscoring the Knights 17-6 over the first four and a half minutes to take a 59-32 lead. 
  • Queens would cut Southern's lead to 59-40 before Southern would extend their lead to 74-44 with 6:37 left and then hang on to a 75-60 victory.
 
Notes
  • Southern had five players score in double figures for the first time this season, and for the first time since last year's Northeast 10 Tournament Quarterfinal matchup against Saint Anselm on March 3, a 97-87 Southern victory.
  • The last time two Southern players recorded double-doubles in a game was also during last year's Northeast 10 Quarterfinal game against Saint Anselm, when Adams II and Joey Wallace both had double-doubles.
  • The Owls had three players record at least 10 rebounds in a game for the first time since Nov. 12, 2016 against Holy Family, when Adams II, Jerry Luckett, Jr., and Austin Carter all had double-digit rebounds. 
  • Adams II recorded his fifth career double-double, and his second of the season (last done against Post University on Nov. 8). 
  • Boissard recorded his first career collegiate double-double.
