The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team will open up the 2019-20 season by playing in the Bridgeport Conference Challenge for the second consecutive year. The Owls begin the season against Post University on Friday, Nov. 8 at 5 p.m. before playing Goldey-Beacom on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m.

All-Time vs. Post
  • The Owls are 8-1 all-time against the Eagles. The last time these two teams faced each other was on Nov. 10, 2018 in Bridgeport, Conn., with the Eagles securing a 103-102 victory. Taurus Adams II scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds. 

All-Time vs. Goldey-Beacom
  • The Owls are 1-0 all-time against the Lightning. The Owls last played Goldey-Beacom on Nov. 10, 2012 in their season opener, with Southern winning 94-77 at Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium. Trevon Hamlet led all scorers with 28 points and grabbed five rebounds. 

What You Need To Know
  • Southern was picked to finished third in the Southwest Division in the 2019-20 NE10 Preseason Coaches Poll. 
  • The Owls went 19-12 last season, and won multiple NE10 Conference Tournament games for the first time since 2014. Southern defeated Stonehill in the first round before upsetting top-seeded Saint Anselm to advance to the tournament's semifinals. 
  • Scott Burrell enters his fourth season as head coach. His 75 wins over his first four years are the most successful opening four-year stretch for any Owls' coach in program history.
  • C.J. Seaforth (Hamden, Conn.) led all returning players a season ago in scoring with 422 points, rebounds with 95, and assists with 71 in 29 games played, averaging of 14.6 points per game, 3.3 rebounds per game, and 2.4 assists per game. 
  • Seaforth shot 44.6 percent from the field, 41.3 percent from beyond the arc, and 88.5% from the free throw line. Seaforth was tied for third place in most three-pointers made in the conference last season with 89 as well. 
  • Southern also returns Ulyen Coleman (Brockton, Mass.), the 2017-18 NE10 Rookie of the Year. Coleman averaged 14.5 points per game and shot 47.1 % from the field and 44.4% from three.
  • Taurus Adams II (Milwaukee, Wisc.), Mikey Mozzicato (Wethersfield, Conn.), Zack Penn (New Hartford, Conn.), and Isaiah Boissard (Walden, N.Y./Western Texas) also return for the Owls. 
  • Southern welcomes in Gregory Jones (Richmond, Va.), a transfer from James Madision, and Khalil Richard (Baltimore, Md.), a transfer from Siena. 
  • The Owls also bring in Lyron Bennett (Boston, Mass.), Levar Allen (Richmond, Va.), Chris Wright (Milford, Conn.), Jamaal Waters (New Britain, Conn.), Judah James (Danbury, Conn.), Matt Muckerman (New Milford, Conn.), and Elmin Redzepagic (Wolcott, Conn.).
