Men's Basketball Bests The College Of Saint Rose, 78-65

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team defeated The College of Saint Rose, 78-65, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The Owls improve to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the Northeast 10, while the Golden Knights fall to 3-7 overall and 0-5 in the NE10. 
 
Senior Taurus Adams II (Milwaukee, Wisc.) finished with a double-double, scoring 24 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Junior C.J. Seaforth (Hamden, Conn.) finished with 18 points, shooting 7-for-11 and knocked down four three-pointers. Junior Khalil Richard (Baltimore, Md.) chipped in 17 points and grabbed five rebounds. 
 
How It Happened
  • Saint Rose took an early 8-6 lead with 14:23 remaining in the first half, but Southern went on a 23-6 run to take a 29-14 lead with 5:03 remaining, their largest of the half. Seaforth and Mikey Mozzicato scored seven points each during the stretch. 
  • Saint Rose answered with a 16-6 run to cut Southern's lead to 35-30, with 45 seconds remaining in the half. Seaforth answered with a three-pointer before the buzzer, and Southern took a 38-31 lead into the break. 
  • Southern opened the second half on a 12-5 run to extend their lead to 50-36 with 16:20 remaining in the half. Seaforth scored six points on two three-pointers during the run. 
  • After Saint Rose cut Southern's lead to 10, the Owls went on an 11-3 run to extend their lead to 61-43 with 11:54 remaining, their largest lead of the game. Saint Rose answered with a 20-6 run to cut Southern's lead to 67-63, with 3:11 remaining. 
  • Southern went on an 11-2 run to end the game, including a perfect 3-3 shooting from the field and 4-4 at the free throw line, securing a 78-65 victory. 
 
Notes
  • Adams II recorded his eighth career double-double and his fifth of the season. 
  • Adams II is averaging 22.3 points per game over his last three games, dating back to Dec. 4 against New Haven. 
  • Adams II now has four career games scoring at least 20 points, with two of them coming this month. 
  • Seaforth has made at least four three-pointers in a game for the fifth time this season.
  • Richard has scored in double figures in six of the Owls' last seven games. 
  • Richard's four steals were the most a Southern player has had in a game this season.
  • Head coach Scott Burrell recorded his 80th career victory, becoming the fourth men's basketball head coach to record at least 80 wins in a career. 
  • Burrell joins Art Leary (373), Edward Brown (101), and Mike Donnelly (97) as the only head coaches in program history with at least 80 wins.
