Coming off a 65-63 victory over No. 21 nationally ranked Saint Thomas Aquinas, the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team will now prepare for a matchup with Division I Atlantic-10 opponent, the University of Massachusetts on Monday, Dec. 30 at the Mullins Center in Amherst, Mass. to close out the 2019 portion of the Owls season.

Owl To Watch: Redshirt junior Jessica Fressle is coming off her third straight 20-point game and her fifth of the season after notching 20 points against STAC on Dec. 18. The forward is averaging 15.7 points per game with a 44% shooting percentage from the field and a 40% shooting percentage from three-point range.

Minutewoman To Watch: Senior Hailey Leidel has been a force for UMass this season averaging 17.8 points per game, 1.8 steals per game, while shooting 46.1% from the field and 46.2% from three-point range.

The Last Time They Met: These two squads last faced each other 36 years ago on Dec. 13, 1983 when the Owls captured a 68-52 victory over the Minutewomen.

Last Time Out
  • The Owls defeated No. 21 Saint Thomas Aquinas, 65-63 at Moore Field House on Dec. 18.
  • Redshirt junior Ednaija Lassiter knocked down the game-winning shot with five seconds left to win the game. In addition to knocking down the game-winning shot, Lassiter collected 12 points and three rebounds, shooting 4-for-6 from the three-point range and 4-for-7 from the field.
  • Senior Imani Wheeler recorded a career-high 11 assists, eight points and three steals.
  • Redshirt junior Jessica Fressle notched 20 points, five rebounds and one block, while shooting 4-for-9 from the three-point range.
  • Redshirt freshman Alexa Kellner collected 12 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal, while shooting 4-for-6 from the field and 4-for-5 from beyond the arc.

  • SCSU is third in the NE10 in steals per game with an average of 10.4.
  • Southern Connecticut is second in the conference in three-pointers made with 95 on the season.
  • The Owls average the least number of turnovers per game in the conference with 13.3 per game, while the highest team turnover average is as high as 21.1 turnovers per game.

Player Notes
  • Kiana Steinauer is now up 1,065 career points, ranking 18th all-time in program history.
  • Steinauer's 50 rebounds this season puts her seven away from breaking the 1,000 mark in rebounds. She previously broke 1,000 points in the Owls game against Bridgeport on Nov. 9.
  • With four steals against New York Tech on Nov. 20, Imani Wheeler hit the 150 career steals marker. Her 39 steals this season put her at 175 career steals. She broke a career-high in the Owls game against AIC on Nov. 26 with eight.
  • Alexa Kellner's five steals against New Haven was a career-high. Her previous career-high was on Nov. 9 against Bridgeport when she had two.
  • Aaliyah Walker notched a career-high 12 rebounds against Saint Rose on Dec. 11. Her previous career-high was set on Nov. 25, 2018 when she had eight rebounds against Queens College.
  • Ednaija Lassiter collected her first career double-double as an Owl with 16 points and 14 rebounds against Chestnut Hill on Dec. 14, both of which were career-highs. Both of her career-highs were set against Saint Rose on Dec. 10 when she collected 10 points and eight rebounds.
  • Seven rebounds against Chestnut Hill are a career-high for Imani Wheeler. Her previous career-high was set on Dec. 4, 2018 against American International and was tied on three occasions during the 2018-19 season.
  • Imani Wheeler's 11 assists against Saint Thomas Aquinas are a career-high. Her previous career-high was nine assists on Nov. 10, 2018 against Post.

  • Imani Wheeler is first in the conference in steals per game with 3.5 and first in total steals with 39.
  • Jessica Fressle is fifth in total points with 173 and eighth in points per game with 15.7.
  • Fressle is also fifth in free throws, going 43-for-49 on the season and is fourth in free throw percentage of 87.8.
