Men's Basketball Falls To American International, 83-77

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team lost to American International College, 83-77, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at the James Moore Field House in New Haven, Conn. With the loss, Southern drops to 15-10 overall and 10-7 in the NE10 while AIC improves to 10-15 overall and 6-11 in conference play.

Isaiah McLeod (Cambridge, Mass.) poured in a career- and season-high 34 points while also collecting seven rebounds. Kealen Ives (Providence, R.I.) had 14 points in the game while Luke Beesley (Champagne, Ill.) finished with 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

How It Happened
  • American International controlled the pace of the game from the start, using a 12-0 run that carried them through much of regulation. The Yellow Jackets never trailed, and pushed their lead to as much as 21 points during the game.
  • The Yellow Jackets rode the hot hand for most of the game, shooting 53.7% from the floor, including an 11-for-22 showing from three-point range.
  • After AIC grabbed a 17-point lead through the first half, Southern responded by outscoring the Yellow Jackets, 47-36, in the second half. While the Owls struggled from long range down the stretch, they potted 24 points from the paint.

Notes
  • McLeod's 34-point night tops his previous high of 33 that he scored against Bentley at home on Jan. 26. The Owls' senior converted on 7-of-8 from the floor down the stretch on his way to a 13-for-23 night.
  • McLeod now has 1,656 career points, which ranks 10th all-time at Southern Connecticut.
  • Beesley bounced back after missing the Owls' matchup against St. Rose on Saturday, Feb. 9 with his first double-digit point total in his last six games.
