Men's Basketball Drops 99-77 Decision To New Haven

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team dropped a 99-77 decision against the University of New Haven at Charger Gymnasium. The Owls dropped to 14-9 overall and 9-6 in the conference, while the Chargers improved to 15-6 overall and 10-5 in the conference. 
 
Kealen Ives (Providence, R.I.) scored a team-high 26 points, six rebounds and one steal. C.J. Seaforth (Hamden, Conn.) recorded 21 points, six rebounds and one assist in the loss. Joey Wallace (Rochester, N.Y.) tallied double-digit points for the fourth time this season with 11 as well as five rebounds and two steals on the night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Owls used a 10-0 run over the final five minutes of the half to take a 41-35 lead with two minutes to play in the half. The Owls held a 44-41 lead going into halftime.
  • Southern countered a hot-shooting New Haven team that knocked down 8-of-16 from the outside behind a 14-point first half performance from Kealen Ives
  • The Chargers went on a 21-5 run midway through the second to take a 72-57 lead. 
  • New Haven shot 18-for-30 from beyond the arc to power their offense.   
 
FACTS
  • Senior Joey Wallace scored double-digit points for the fourth time this season. The last time he hit double-digits was against LIU-Post on Jan. 2, 2019.
  • Ives recorded his fifth 20-point performance of the season. The last time he scored 20 points was against Bentley University when he totaled 29 on Jan. 27, 2019.
  • Four Owls scored double-digit points: Ives (26), Seaforth (21), Wallace (11) and McLeod (11).

The Owls are set to host Saint Rose College on Saturday, Feb. 9 at Moore Field House for a 3:30 p.m. tip-off.
