NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team beat the College of Saint Rose, 98-81, at James Moore Field House. The Owls improve to 16-9 overall and 11-6 in the conference while the Golden Knights dropped to 8-14 overall and 5-10 in the conference.
Taurus Adams II (Milwaukee, Wisc.) led the Owls with a season-high 25 points and five rebounds on the night.
Joey Wallace (Rochester, N.Y.) broke his career-high with 22 points while shooting 7-for-10 from the field and 4-for-7 from three-point territory. He also had eight rebounds and two assists in the win.
Kealen Ives (Providence, R.I.) tallied his fourth double-double of the year with 12 points and 10 assists while also collecting five rebounds.
Mekhi Warren (New Haven, Conn.) hit double-digit points for the first time in his collegiate career with 15 while also recording four rebounds and one block.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Owls surged early to hold a 27-8 lead at the 13:31 mark, with Wallace scoring seven points during that run and C.J. Seaforth (Hamden, Conn.) scoring six.
- Taurus Adams II scored 14 of his eventual 25 points in the first half and teammate Joey Wallace recorded 13 of his 22 total points in the first to help the Owls to a 49-41 lead at halftime.
- Southern cruised the rest of the game outscoring Saint Rose 49-40 in the second half to seal the 98-81 win.
FACTS
- Adams' 14 points at Jefferson on Dec. 15, 2018 was his season-high entering Saturday's game.
- Wallace's previous career-high of 21 came against Le Moyne on Nov. 18, 2017.
- Ives tallied his fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. His last double-double came against Saint Michael's College on Feb. 2, 2019 when he recorded 15 points and 10 rebounds.
- Warren's previous career-high of eight came against Queens on Dec. 30, 2018.
- Warren was also 9-for-13 from the free throw line.
- The last player to attempt 10 free-throws was Kealen Ives on Jan. 26, 2019 against Bentley University shooting 12-for-12 from the free throw line.
- The Owls never trailed for the entire 40 minutes. The last time that happened was on Jan. 2, 2019 against LIU-Post.
- Six Owls' tallied double-digit points: Adams II (25), Wallace (22), Warren (15), Ives (12), Seaforth (12) and McLeod (10). The last time five Owls hit double-digit points was on Jan. 23, 2019 against Franklin Pierce University.
