NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University lacrosse team fell 15-5 to Saint Anselm at Jess Dow Field. The Owls drop to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in the Northeast 10, while the Hawks improve to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the Northeast 10.
Freshman
Karlie Rowe (Niantic, Conn.) scored two goals on five shots and collected one ground ball.
Stephanie Seymour (North Branford, Conn.) scored one goal and had three draw controls while teammate
Amanda Murray (Bow, N.H.) also scored one goal on three shots, had one ground ball and one caused turnover.
Laura Morton (Somers, Conn.) had 10 saves in net through 60 minutes of play for the Owls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hawks opened up the scoring at the 27:40 mark to take the lead. St. Anselm scored six minutes later to double its lead over the Owls. However, Karlie Rowe scored the Owls first of the game at the 18:43 mark, 2-1.
- The Hawks notched a goal at the 15:52 mark increasing their lead to 3-1. Southern responded with two unanswered goals by Kelly Jagodzinski and Rowe to tie the game at three all. St. Anselm finished the first half with three unanswered goals to go up 6-3.
- The Hawks offense came alive in the second as they outscored the Owls 9-2. Amanda Murray scored the Owls first goal of the second at the 24:25 mark and Stephanie Seymour found the back of the net at the 17:02 mark. The Hawks second half surge led them to the 15-5 victory over the Owls.
FACTS
- This is Freshman Karlie Rowe's second multiple game performance of her career, with the first coming on February 27, 2019 against LIU-Post when she registered four goals.
- With her two goals today, Rowe now has 10 goals on the year and second on the team in scoring behind Samantha Cozzolino with 13.
- Amanda Murray scored her first goal since her freshman year on April 29, 2017 against Southern New Hampshire where she scored two goals.
- Stephanie Seymour and Kelly Jagodzinski each scored one goal today. Seymour now has four goals and one assist on the year, while Jagodzinski scored the second goal of her career.
