NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University lacrosse team fell to Pace, 19-8 at Jess Dow Field. The Owls drop to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in the conference, while the Setter improve to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Samantha Cozzolino (Hamden, Conn.) scored five goal on six shots, tallied two assists and collected four draw controls.
Hailey Gordon (Niantic, Conn.) scored two goals on two shots, while teammate
Karlie Rowe registered her first collegiate assist and recorded two shots in the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Southern opened the scoring in the first minute of the game as Samantha Cozzolino assisted Kelly Jagodzinski (Stamford, Conn.). Pace responded with two unanswered goals to gain the lead, 2-1.
- Sophomore Hailey Gordon (Niantic, Conn.) scored back-to-back goals and recaptured the lead for the Owls, 3-2. The Setters scored three straight goals to hold a 5-3 lead with 12:34 left in the first. The Setters outscored the Owls 5-2 in the last 12 minutes of play and took a 10-5 lead into halftime.
- Pace scored five unanswered goals to open the second half expanded its lead to 10. Cozzolino scored three of her eventual five goals in the second. However, the Setters offensive burst in the second was the difference maker and they claimed a 19-8 win.

- Cozzolino registered her nineteenth hat-trick of her collegiate career and fourth of the season. She leads the Owls with 18 goals and six assists so far this year.
- With her five goals against Pace, Cozzolino now sits in 2nd place with 117 career goals and trails Nicole Healey '18 for 1st place all-time at SCSU with 172. With her two assists against Pace, she sits in 4th place with 33 career assists and trails Kennedy Sherman '17 for 3rd place all-time at SCSU with 35. With her seven points against Pace, Cozzolino sits in 3rd place with 150 career points and trails Carolynn Keal '18 for 2nd place all-time at SCSU with 161.
- Hailey Gordon scored two goals in the loss making this her third multiple-goal game of the season and the fifth of her career.
