Karlie Rowe Sets SCSU Record In Loss To Franklin Pierce

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team lost 17-16 in triple overtime to Franklin Pierce University in the longest game in SCSU history. The Owls fall to 2-9 overall and 1-6 in the Northeast 10, while the Ravens improve to 6-3 and 2-5 in the Northeast 10.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Despite letting in a quick goal, Southern was able to jump out to a 3-1 lead through the opening eight minutes of play. Cozzolino scored the first goal, then Rowe found the back of the net for the Owls second goal assisted by Bayleigh Takacs (Sparta, N.J.), and Stephanie Seymour added one more to hold a two-goal lead over the Ravens.
  • The Owls kept the lead until the 10:37 mark when the Ravens went on a seven-goal run to take a 10-5 lead with 1:25 left in the first half. Rowe's goal cut Franklin Pierce's lead down to four with one-minute remaining in the half, 10-6.
  • Rowe got the Owls on the board first to start the second half cutting the Raven's lead down to three. Franklin Pierce scored the following goal, but the Owls countered scoring back-to-back goals from Cozzolino and Rowe who was assisted by Jagodzinski, 11-9.
  • The two teams traded goals for the next ten minutes until the Owls found themselves man-up and scored three unanswered goals; two from Rowe, one from Seymour with Jagodzinski assisting on two of the three goals, to bring the Owls within one of Franklin Pierce, 15-14.
  • Cozzolino was clutch as she scored the game tying goal with 00:52 seconds left in the game to force three overtime periods. However, the Ravens scored in the third overtime to seal the 17-16 win.
