NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team drops 16-3 decision to No. 3 Nationally Ranked Adelphi at Jess Dow Field. The Owls fall to 2-10 overall and 1-7 in the Northeast 10, while the Panthers improve to 9-1 overall and 6-0 in the Northeast 10.
Samantha Cozzolino (Hamden, Conn.) led the Owls in scoring with two goals on four shots and grabbed six draw controls, while teammate
Karlie Rowe (Niantic, Conn.) notched one goal on four shots in the loss.
Laura Morton (Somers, Conn.) tallied 18 saves and four ground ball while letting in 14 goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Panthers offense had a fast start taking a 2-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game. The Owls responded well outscoring Adelphi 2-1, with goals from Cozzolino and Rowe to cut the lead down to one, 3-2.
- Adelphi offense proved to be too much for the Owls as they outscored Southern 6-1 through the rest of the first half to take a 9-3 lead at halftime.
- Adelphi cruised the rest of the game to take the 16-3 win over the Owls.

- With her two goals against Adelphi, Cozzolino now sits in 2nd place with 136 career goals and trails Nicole Healey '18 for 1st place all-time at SCSU with 172. With her one assist against AIC, she is tied for 2nd place all-time in career assists with Nicole Healey '18 at 41. - With her 18 saves today Laura Morton sets a season-high for saves this year. The last time she had 18 saves was against Adelphi on March 29, 2017.
