Rossini Collects First Career Goal In Loss To SNHU

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team fell to Southern New Hampshire in Northeast 10 action, 20-13. The Owls fall to 2-13 overall and 1-10 in the conference, while the Penmen improve to 5-8 overall and 2-7 in the conference.
 
Samantha Cozzolino (Hamden, Conn.) led the Owls in scoring with five goals on nine shots, one assist, six draw controls and one ground ball in today's contest. Karlie Rowe (Niantic, Conn.) notched three goals on seven shots. Laura Morton (Somers, Conn.) tallied nine saves through 60 minutes of play and allowed 20 goals.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Southern New Hampshire scored the opening goal of the game at the 27:13 mark, but the Owls scored five unanswered goals from five different goal scorers; Morgan Chase (Windsor, Conn.), Samantha Cozzolino, Bayleigh Takacs (Sparta, N.J.), Hailey Gordon (Niantic, Conn.) and Karlie Rowe to lead the Penmen 5-1.
  • The Penmen slowly chipped away at the Owls lead over the next 15 minutes outscoring the Owls 5-1 tying the game at six all. 
  • Cozzolino ignited the Owls' offense scoring three goals in the last three minutes of play in the first half to give the Owls a 9-8 lead going into halftime.
  • New Hampshire's defense was effective in the second half as they held Southern to four goals. Rowe scored two of her eventual three goals in the second half.
  • The Penmen's second half surge sealed the 20-13 win over the Owls.

  • With her five goals against SNHU, Cozzolino sits in 2nd place with 144 career goals and trails Nicole Healey '18 for 1st place all-time at SCSU with 172. With her one assist against SNHU, she now sits in 2nd place with 43 career assists and trails Carolynn Keal '18 for 1st place all-time at SCSU with 56. With her six points against SNHU, Cozzolino sits in 2nd place with 187 career points and trails Nicole Healey '18 for 1st place all-time at SCSU with 213.
  • With her five goals, Cozzolino registered her 25th hat trick of her collegiate career and 10th of the season. She leads the Owls with 45 goals and 16 assists so far this year.
  • Emily Rossini (West Hartford, Conn.) scored the first goal of her collegiate career.

The Owls will host Assumption College on Wednesday, April 24 in New Haven, Conn. at Jess Dow Field in Northeast 10 conference play.
