Baseball Tops Le Moyne, 9-3

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team defeated Le Moyne, 9-3, in the third game of its three-game set against the Dolphins in Syracuse, N.Y. The Owls completed the weekend series with wins in two of the three games to improve to 14-21 overall and 5-10 in the Northeast 10 including a 3-5 mark in the Southwest Division. Le Moyne drops to 15-19 overall and 6-8 in the conference as well as 3-5 in the Southwest.

Brandon White (Simsbury, Conn.) improved to 4-0 on the season after giving up two earned runs on six hits over six innings pitched. White has now won three-straight games, all against NE10 opponents. Patrick Webler (Brookline, Mass.) and Tommy Hughes (Newington, Conn.) held the Dolphins scoreless over the last three innings.

At the plate, Jim Palmer (Milford, Conn.) was 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored while Cam O'Toole (Grafton, Mass.) was 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Mike DeMartino (New Haven, Conn.) was also 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored, as well as a double and a triple while Tyler Criscuolo (Branford, Conn.) drove in two runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Palmer and O'Toole both singled before Nick Lamberti (East Haven, Conn.) walked to load the bases in the third. After Palmer was put out at the plate on Criscuolo's ground ball to first, Connor Redahan (Greenwich, Conn.) reached on an error that allowed O'Toole and Lamberti to score.
  • After Le Moyne got a run back in the bottom of the inning, Southern produced a seven-run fifth inning. O'Toole doubled to lead-off the inning before Lamberti worked a walk and both runners moved into scoring position on a balk. Criscuolo then doubled down the right field line to score both runs.
  • After Redahan bunted Criscuolo over, DeMartino delivered a single to score Criscuolo. Isaiah Likely (Windsor, Conn.) then walked before Nolan Cloutier (Wallingford, Conn.) doubled to score DeMartino.
  • Likely then got caught in a run-down on John Spoto's (Stamford, Conn.) ground ball to first before Palmer singled to score Spoto and Cloutier. Palmer scored the Owl's seventh run of the inning off of an error on O'Toole's ground ball to short.
  • Le Moyne scraped together a run in the sixth and again in the seventh. Hughes retired the side in the eighth, and then pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the ninth to end the game.

NOTES
  • Criscuolo's fifth-inning double pushes his hitting streak to 14 games while he has also reached base in all 18 games played.
  • With his three-hit day, Palmer (44) passed Lamberti (42) and Redahan (41) for the team-lead in hits for the season. Palmer now owns a six-game hitting streak and has a team-best 13 multiple hit games.
  • DeMartino's three-hit day was his 12th multiple-hit game of the season. He also collected his team-leading 14th double and second triple of the season.
  • O'Toole has turned it on lately with three-straight multiple hit games, as well as three-straight games with multiple runs scored. In his last three games, he is hitting .500 (7-14) with six runs scored.
  • With a scoreless inning against Le Moyne, Webler has not given up an earned run in his last two appearances.
