Owls Downed By Bentley, 15-8

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut State University team was edged by Bentley University 15-8 at the Bentley Turf Field. The Owls drop to 2-11 overall and 1-8 in the Northeast 10, while the Falcons improve to 8-1 overall and 6-1 in the Northeast 10.
 
Samantha Cozzolino (Hamden, Conn.) tallied three goals on seven shots, had one assist, grabbed three ground balls and won eight draw controls, while teammate Karlie Rowe (Niantic, Conn.) scored two goals on five shots for the Owls. Laura Morton (Somers, Conn.) registered 12 saves through 60 minutes of play and allowed 15 goals against.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Southern started hot scoring the first two goals of the game, with Cozzolino and Stephanie Seymour (North Branford, Conn.) finding the back of the net. The Falcons countered with two unanswered goals to tie the game at two all. 
  • Rowe scored her 24th goal of the year giving the Owls a 3-2 lead. However, Bentley responded with six consecutive goals to take an 8-3 lead.
  • Kelly Jagodzinski (Stamford, Conn.) scored with 27 seconds left in the first half to cut down the Falcons lead to four.
  • Bentley opened the scoring the in the second half scoring four straight, extending their lead to 12-4. 
  • The Owls offense pushed throughout the last 20 minutes of play and outscored the Falcons 4-3; with two goals from Cozzolino, one from Rowe and one from Morgan Chase (Windsor, Conn.). Bentley's six-goal run was the difference maker as they took a 15-8 win over the Owls.

  • With her three goals against Bentley, Cozzolino sits in 2nd place with 139 career goals and trails Nicole Healey '18 for 1st place all-time at SCSU with 172. With her one assist against Bentley, she now sits in sole possession of 2nd place with 42 career assists and trails Carolynn Keal '18 for 1st place all-time at SCSU with 56. With her four points against Bentley, Cozzolino sits in 2nd place with 181 career points and trails Nicole Healey '18 for 1st place all-time at SCSU with 213.
  • With her three goals, Cozzolino registered her 24th hat trick of her collegiate career and ninth of the season. She leads the Owls with 40 goals and 15 assists so far this year.
  • With her 12 saves against Bentley, Laura Morton has registered her seventh game with 10-plus saves in thirteenth games this year. 
 
UP NEXT 
The Owls will travel Syracuse, N.Y. to face Le Moyne College on April 10 for a 12 p.m. start time.
