Men's Soccer Ties Nyack, 3-3

NYACK, N.Y. – The Southern Connecticut men's soccer team tied Nyack, 3-3, on the road. With the tie, the Owls go to 1-0-2 overall while Nyack moves to 0-0-2 on the season.
 
Matthew Surette (Bowie, Md.), Francisco Roldan (Malaga, Spain) and Juan Avila (Clinton, Conn.) all scored for the Owls, while Devante Teixeira (Boston, Mass.) set-up two of the Owls' goals.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nyack got on the board by virtue of an "Own Goal" by the Owls in the 16th minute of play.
  • Matthew Surette scored his first career goal seven minutes later off a pass from Devante Teixeira to tie the game at 1-1.
  • Coming out of the half, Nyack's Mitchell Reed gave the Warriors the lead again before Francisco Roldan found the back of the net for the first time this season, with Teixeira picking up his second point of the afternoon on the helper.
  • Juan Avila scored his second goal of the season in the 73rd minute of play to give the Owls' a one-goal lead before Nyack's Fabbio Bruns Ribeiro forced overtime with a goal with under a minute to play.
 
NOTES
  • Teixeira has tallied a point in each of the Owls' three games, including multiple points in two of the three games and has factored into five of the Owls' eight goals to date.
  • Surette and Roldan both scored their first goals of the season, while Surette's was the first of his career.
  • The due gives Southern seven different goal-scorers through its first three game sof the young season.
 
UP NEXT
The Owls return home on Tuesday, Sept. 17 to host Assumption for the Owls' Northeast 10 Conference opener at 7 p.m. at Jess Dow Field.
