Men's Soccer Blanks Stonehill, 2-0

Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team defeated Stonehill, 2-0, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Conn. With the win, the Owls improve to 2-2-3 overall and pick up their first NE10 win of the season to jump to 1-2-1 on the year. Stonehill goes to 3-4-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the conference.

Devante Teixeira (Boston, Mass.) scored the Owls' first goal off a pass from Blaise Haba (West Haven, Conn.) picked up his first point of the season with the assist on Teixeira's goal. Francisco Roldan Martin (Malaga, Spain) scored his team-leading third goal of the season late in the game. Andrey Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil) recorded two saves in the shutout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Teixeira put the Owls on the board in the 22nd minute of play after he took a pass from Blaise Haba in the box, stepped between two defenders and blasted a shot over Stonehill keeper Andrew Hammersley to give the Owls a 1-0 edge.
  • In the 71st minute of play, Roldan took a pass along the sideline in front of the Owls' goal, dripped to the top of the box and hammered a shot to top right corner to push the Owls' lead to two goals.

NOTES   
  • Teixeira's goal was his second of the season and first since the Owls defeated NYIT on Sept. 11, 2019. For the year, Teixeira now has two goals and four assists for eight points through seven games.
  • Over the last four years, Southern is 6-1 in games in which Teixeira has scored a goal.
  • Haba's assist was his first of the season and the second of his career, with his last point coming against Saint Michael's on Oct. 3, 2018.
  • Roldan now leads the Owls with three goals overall, including a team-best two goals against NE10 opponents.
  • Carvalho was seemingly untested for most of the game, but picks up his first career victory and shutout with two saves against the Skyhawks.
