The Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team opens the 2019 season hosting two days of back-to-back tri-matches, hosting Dominican College and Queens college on Friday, Sept. 6 before hosting Assumption and Caldwell on Saturday.

All-Time vs. Dominican:Â 12-1
The Last Time They Met:
• The Owls took down Dominican, 3-0 behind
Alyssa Gage's 20 kills and 12 blocks to go along with a .655 Â Â Â Â hitting percentage.

All-Time vs. Queens:Â 11-8
The Last Time They Met:
• SCSU blitzed Queens, 3-0 behind the stellar play of
Alyssa Gage who collected a game-high 19 kills.

All-Time vs. Assumption:Â 15-6
The Last Time They Met:
• Four different Owls notched double-digit kill totals and a quartet of Owls also posted double-doubles as SCSU defeated Assumption, 3-1.

The Last Time They Met:
• SCSU hasn't faced Caldwell since the 2017 season when the Cougars defeated the Owls, 3-1 despite double-double efforts from then-senior

Calling on the Captains
 • The Owls will return fifth-year senior Jen Dawson and senior
Jillian Chambers, who head coach,
Lisa Barbaro announced will both serve as co-captains for the 2019 season.

What You Need To Know
• The reigning NE10 Champion Owls were picked to finish fifth in the 2019 preseason poll as voted on by the conference's coaches.
• Chambers started 31 of the Owls' 34 matches and accumulated 165 kills, 264 digs and 40 blocks and 20 aces. Dawson was second on the Owls' roster with 34 aces while starting 21 of 34 matches.

Erika Benson,
Tea Carter,
Anna Venard,
Natalie Fineman and
Sophia Castellano also return to the Owls' rotation. Colwell, a 2017 All-Rookie pick, finished with 130 kills and 51 blocks during her sophomore campaign while Venard was second on the Owls' roster with 329 digs.
Next Up
The Owls will head to Waterbury, Conn. next weekend, Saturday, Sept. 14 and Sunday, Sept. 15 for four matches at the Post University Tournament.
