Women's Basketball Opens 2020 With NE10 Showdown Against Pace

The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team opens 2020 with a conference game at Moore Field House as the Setters of Pace University roll into New Haven on Saturday, Jan. 4. The Owls, who sit fifth in the Southwest Division of the NE10, are coming off a loss to UMass on Dec. 30. The Setters, who sit third in the Southwest, haven't played since Dec. 15 where they defeated Dominican at home. They'll take on Caldwell on Thursday, Jan. 2 before facing the Owls on Saturday at Moore Field House.

Owl To Watch: Senior Imani Wheeler has been a consistent force for the Owls thus far. Averaging a conference-high of 37.3 minutes per game, she leads the NE10 in steals per game and averages 11.4 points per game. She has notched eight double-digit point games out of 12 this season.

Setters To Watch: The duo of 
Jackie DelliSanti and Lauren Schetter 
will be the ones to watch on Pace as they've combined for almost 50% of the Setters' total points this season. DelliSanti sports a 55.3% field goal percentage and averages 18.4 points per game. Schetter has a 50.6% field goal percentage and averages 17.3 points per game.

The Last Time They Met: Keyed by a third 30-plus point performance of 2018-19 season from 
Kiana Steinauer, the Owls triumphantly defeated Pace, 82-78 in overtime to clinch a berth in the conference's post season tournament on Feb. 23, 2019.

Last Time Out
  • The Owls fell to the University of Massachusetts, 86-43 at the Mullins Center.
  • Freshmen Alexa Kellner and Blake Greer were the Owls' leaders on offense. Kellner had eight points and four rebounds, while Greer had eight points on 4-for-6 shooting. 
  • Redshirt junior Ednaija Lassiter collected seven points and seven rebounds, while freshman Amani Boston added seven points.

  • SCSU is third in the NE10 in steals per game with an average of 9.8.
  • Southern Connecticut is second in the conference in three-pointers made with 101 on the season.
  • The Owls average the least number of turnovers per game in the conference with 13.3 per game, while the highest team turnover average is as high as 21.1 turnovers per game.

Player Notes
  • Kiana Steinauer is now up 1,065 career points, ranking 18th all-time in program history.
  • Steinauer's 50 rebounds this season puts her seven away from breaking the 1,000 mark in rebounds. She previously broke 1,000 points in the Owls game against Bridgeport on Nov. 9.
  • With four steals against New York Tech on Nov. 20, Imani Wheeler hit the 150 career steals marker. Her 39 steals this season put her at 175 career steals. She broke a career-high in the Owls game against AIC on Nov. 26 with eight.
  • Alexa Kellner's five steals against New Haven was a career-high. Her previous career-high was on Nov. 9 against Bridgeport when she had two.
  • Aaliyah Walker notched a career-high 12 rebounds against Saint Rose on Dec. 11. Her previous career-high was set on Nov. 25, 2018 when she had eight rebounds against Queens College.
  • Ednaija Lassiter collected her first career double-double as an Owl with 16 points and 14 rebounds against Chestnut Hill on Dec. 14, both of which were career-highs. Both of her career-highs were set against Saint Rose on Dec. 10 when she collected 10 points and eight rebounds.
  • Seven rebounds against Chestnut Hill are a career-high for Imani Wheeler. Her previous career-high was set on Dec. 4, 2018 against American International and was tied on three occasions during the 2018-19 season.
  • Imani Wheeler's 11 assists against Saint Thomas Aquinas are a career-high. Her previous career-high was nine assists on Nov. 10, 2018 against Post.

  • Imani Wheeler is first in the conference in steals per game with 3.3 and first in total steals with 40.
  • Jessica Fressle is fifth in total points with 178 and ninth in points per game with 14.8.
  • Fressle is also fourth in free throws, going 45-for-51 on the season and is fourth in free throw percentage of 88.2.

The Owls will host Adelphi University on Wednesday, Jan. 8 for a 5:30 p.m. conference matchup with the Panthers at Moore Field House.
