Women's Basketball Begins Four-Game Road Trip Against Saint Anselm on Saturday, Feb. 1

The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team will begin their four-game road trip on Saturday, Feb. 1 with a game against Saint Anselm College, the current Northeast Division leader.
 
The Owls' Imani Wheeler, in the midst of a career year,  has been the most consistent component to Southern's lineup this season. Her solid play through the last set of games makes her the Owl to Watch on the court Saturday afternoon. In her last six games, she's averaging 18.5 points per game, 3.33 steals per game and shooting 45% from the field in her last six games. The Hawks are coming off a dominant 79-47 win over Saint Rose, where standout Shannon Ryan collected 21 points and 15 boards. She'll be a player to watch on the court as she leads the conference in points per game and rebounds per game.

All-Time Against Saint Anselm: 16-9
The Last Time They Met: The Owls fell to Saint Anselm College, 80-69, at Moore Field House. 
Amanda Pfohl broke her career-high in points with a total of 24, while shooting 41% from the field. She also added four rebounds and two steals. Kiana Steinauer had an impressive 17 points and nine rebounds, while Imani Wheeler tallied 13 points, seven assists and a career-high six steals. Aaliyah Walker chipped in five assists for the Owls. 

Last Time Out
  • The Owls fell to Assumption, 68-52 on Jan. 28 at Moore Field House.
  • Senior Imani Wheeler registered a career-high and game-high 26 points and added five rebounds and four steals, while shooting 46% from the field.
  • Redshirt freshman Alexa Kellner  tallied nine points and three steals, while
  • Redshirt junior Jessica Fressle had nine rebounds and eight points in the loss for the Owls.
     
Team Notes
  • SCSU is third in the NE10 in steals per game with an average of 9.3.
  • Southern Connecticut is tied for second in the conference in three-pointers made with 160.
  • The Owls average the second least number of turnovers per game in the conference and are ranked 29th in NCAA DII women's basketball with 13.4 per game.
  • The team is also 29th in the nation in turnover margin with a margin of 4.80 (268-364).
 
Player Notes
  • Imani Wheeler has recorded double-digit points in eight-straight games with 26 points against Assumption College.
  • Wheeler has snagged three or more steals in six of her last seven games played.
  • Alexa Kellner collected double-digit points in four of her last six games. 
  • Wheeler is tied for fifth in NCAA DII in steals with 65 and seventh in steals per game (3.25).
 
The Owls in the NE10
  • Imani Wheeler is first in the conference in steals per game with 3.3 and in total steals with 65.
  • Wheeler is 11th in the conference in total points with 276, while Jessica Fressle is 14th with 257. Wheeler is also 13th in points per game with 13.8.
  • Fressle is eighth in free throws, going 58-for-69 on the season and is fifth in free throw percentage of 84.1.
  • Two Owls rank in the top ten in minutes per game as Imani Wheeler averages a conference-high 38 minutes per game, while Alexa Kellner is ninth and averages 33.3 minutes per game.
  • Wheeler has seen the most minutes in the conference clocking a total of 760 minutes on the floor this season.

Second-Half Season Notes
  • Paula Tattari registered a career-high 10 points. Her previous career-high of six points was set last game against Southern New Hampshire on Jan. 14.
  • Alexa Kellner recorded a career-high five assists against Saint Michael's. Her previous career-high was four against Dec. 14.
  • Alexa Kellner topped a career-high in points with 22 against Franklin Pierce. Her previous career-high was set against Bentley on Jan. 11 when she had 15.
  • Five steals are a career-high for Jessica Fressle. Her previous career-high came during the 2018-19 against Le Moyne on Nov. 17, 2018 when she recorded four.
  • Imani Wheeler tallied a career-high 26 points against Assumption. Her previous career-high was on Dec. 30, 2018 against Dominican when she had 23 points.
