Men's Basketball Picks Up Big Win Over Pace University

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team won their third consecutive game as they defeated Pace University, 64-61, in a Northeast 10 Conference showdown at James Moore Field House. The Owls improve to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in the NE10, while the Setters fall to 11-3 overall and 3-2 in the NE10. Pace was previously ranked No. 6 in the most recent D2SIDA East Regional Poll, last compiled on Dec. 16.
 
Senior Taurus Adams II (Milwaukee, Wisc.) finished with a game-high 17 points and 11 rebounds, his sixth double-double of the season. Junior C.J. Seaforth (Hamden, Conn.) finished with 16 points and three steals and redshirt junior Isaiah Boissard (Walden, N.Y.) finished with 10 points. Freshman Lyron Bennett (Boston, Mass.) scored seven points and grabbed nine rebounds. 

How It Happened
  • Both teams got off to a quick start, but Pace took an 18-12 with 11:29 remaining. 
  • Southern went on a 10-4 run, capped by a Levar Allen made layup, to tie the game at 22 with 5:02 remaining. 
  • The Owls then went on an 11-5 run to end the half to take a 33-27 lead. Boissard scored five of Southern's 11 points, including a three-pointer before the end of the half. 
  • Coming out of the locker room, Seaforth sparked an 11-4 run for Southern with back-to-back baskets to take a 44-31 lead with 15:35 remaining, their largest lead of the game. 
  • Pace went on a 16-6 run cut Southern's lead to one possession at 50-47 with 8:11 remaining. Southern went on a 9-2 run to take a 59-49 lead with 3:53 remaining. 
  • Pace cut Southern's lead to 61-58 with 57 seconds remaining, but the Owls went 3-4 from the free throw line in the final 30 seconds to seal a 64-61 win. 
     
Notes
  • Adams II recorded his second consecutive double-double and his third in his last four games. It was also his ninth career double-double and sixth of the season.
  • Seaforth has scored at least 15 points in eight of his 10 games played this season. 
  • Seaforth scored 10 of his 16 points in the second half. 
  • Seaforth's three steals were the most he had in a game since Jan. 26, 2019 against Bentley, when he had a career-high four steals. 
  • Boissard scored 10 points in his first game played since Nov. 26 against American International College.
  • Greg Jones has recorded multiple blocks (two) and multiple steals (two) in two consecutive games. 
  • The Owls' three-game win steak is their longest of the season. 
  • Dating back to last season, Southern has beaten Pace in three consecutive games.
