Men's Basketball defeated by Adelphi, 90-80

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team fell to Adelphi University, 90-80, in a Northeast 10 Conference game at James Moore Field House. The Owls fall to 7-5 overall and 3-3 in the NE10, while the Panthers improve to 12-3 overall and 5-1 in the NE10. Adelphi is currently ranked No. 6 in the D2SIDA East Regional Poll.
 
Senior 
Taurus Adams II (Milwaukee, Wisc.) finished with 18 points and a career- and game-high 19 rebounds, his seventh double-double of the season. Junior Khalil Richard (Baltimore, Md.) finished with a season-high 20 points and junior Greg Jones (Bronx. N.Y.) finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Lyron Bennett (Boston, Mass.) scored seven points, grabbed nine rebounds and had six assists. 

How It Happened
  • Both teams got off to a quick start, but Southern took a 19-12 lead with 13:14 remaining in the first half. Jones scored eight points and C.J. Seaforth tallied seven points to give the Owls a seven-point advantage. 
  • Adelphi cut Southern's lead to 21-20 with 10:45 remaining. Bennett made a jumper and Zack Penn made a three-pointer to ignite a 11-2 run of their own to take a 32-22 lead with 7:16 left in the first half.
  • Adelphi took a 37-36 with 3:48 remaining. The Owls went on an 11-0 run and took a 47-37 lead, equaling their largest lead of the game, with 29 seconds remaining in the half before taking a 47-40 lead into halftime.
  • Adelphi cut Southern's lead to 51-50 with 15:59 remaining. Southern went on a 15-8 run and took a 66-58 lead with 9:22 to go. Adams II scored eight of Southern's 15 points during that time. 
  • Adelphi went on a 13-4 run and took a 71-70 lead with 4:44 remaining in the game. The Panthers then ended the game with a 19-10 run to seal their 10-point victory. 

Notes
  • Adams II recorded his third consecutive double-double and his fourth in the last five games. It was also his 10th career double-double and seventh of the season.
  • Adams II set a new career-high with his 19 rebounds. His previous career-high was 13, set on March 12, 2017 against Saint Rose. 
  • Adams II's 19 rebounds were tied for the ninth most in a Division II game this season.
  • Adams II's 19 rebounds were the most by a Southern player since at least the 2007-08 season, and he became the first Southern player to grab at least 18 rebounds in a game since Austin Carter recorded 18 rebounds against Saint Anselm on Jan. 16, 2016. 
  • Adams II's 10 offensive rebounds set a new career-high. His previous career-high was eight against Saint Anselm on Jan. 9, 2018. 
  • Adams II's 10 offensive rebounds were also the most by a Southern player since at least the 2007-2008 season.
  • Richard tied a season-high in points scored with 20, last done on Nov. 13, 2019 against Caldwell. 
  • Richard has recorded double-digits in points in seven of his last nine games played. 
  • Bennett set a career-high with six assists.
  • Southern's 48 rebounds were their most in a game since grabbing 49 rebounds against Feb. 6, 2018 against American International.
