Women's Lacrosse Falls To Bridgeport, 11-10

NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team fell to University of Bridgeport in a non-conference matchup, 11-10, at Jess Dow Field. The Owls drop to 1-1, while the Purple Knights improve to 2-0.
 
The Owls well balanced offense saw seven different players score goals. Sophomores Karlie Rowe (Niantic, Conn.), Bayleigh Takacs (Sparta, N.J.), and Mia Pulisciano (Cheshire, Conn.) all scored two goals apiece, while senior Morgan Chase (Windsor, Conn.), junior Hailey Gordon (Niantic, Conn.), junior Steph Seymour (North Branford, Conn.), and sophomore Kelly Jagodzinski (Stamford, Conn.) scored one each. Junior Laura Morton (Somers, Conn.) saved eight shots in goal for the Owls.
 
First Half
  • Southern took the first lead of the game on a goal by Rowe, and after Bridgeport tied the game, Jagodzinski scored with 14:42 remaining to give Southern a 2-1 lead.
  • Bridgeport scored three straight goals to take a 4-2 lead.
  • Rowe would score her second goal of the half with 1:29 remaining, but the Purple Knights added one more goal before halftime to take a 5-3 lead.
 
Second Half
  • Bridgeport upped their lead to 7-4 with 26:59 remaining, but Southern answered with three unanswered goals to tie the game at seven. Takacs, Pulisciano, and Seymour all scored during the run.
  • Bridgeport scored two straight goals to take a 9-7 lead, and eventually increased their lead to 10-8 with 12:39 remaining.
  • Gordon scored with 4:25 remaining to make it a one goal game, but Bridgeport scored with 1:49 remaining to take a two-goal lead.
  • Chase scored her first goal of the season with under a minute to go, but Bridgeport held on for a narrow victory.
 

Notes
  • Rowe recorded her first multi-goal game of the season and the ninth of her collegiate career.
  • After scoring four goals last year, Takacs has already scored six goals through the season's first two games.
  • Gordon and Jagodzisnki have also scored six goals through two games this year, becoming the first player since Nicole Healey (Milford, Conn.) in 2018 with six goals through two games.
  • Gordon recorded two assists in a game for the first time in her collegiate career.
  • Gordon has recorded 10 points through the first two games of the season, the first Southern player to do so since Allison Kownacki (Orange, Conn.) in 2008.
  • Dating back to last season, Southern has scored at least 10 goals in five consecutive games.
  • Southern has scored at least 10 goals in back-to-back games to open the season for the first time since 2017, when they scored 14 against St. Thomas Aquinas and 16 against Bridgeport.
  • The 32 goals scored by Southern is their most ever scored in the season's first two games in program history.
  • Southern has allowed just 15 goals through their first two games, their fewest ever to start the season.
