Takacs Ties Single-Game Program Assist Record In 18-7 Win Over Post University

NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team defeated Post University, 18-7, in a non-conference matchup, at Jess Dow Field to cap off a three-game opening home stand. The Owls improve to 2-1, while the Eagles fall to 0-4.
 
Three different Owls scored four goals, led by Bayleigh Takacs (Sparta, N.J.), who also tied a single-game program record with five assists, totaling nine total points. Karlie Rowe (Niantic, Conn.) and Steph Seymour (North Branford, Conn.) also scored four goals, while Hailey Gordon (Niantic, Conn.) scored three goals. Mia Pulisciano (Cheshire, Conn.) scored two goals and Kelly Jagodzinski (Stamford, Conn.) scored once.  
 
First Half
  • Five different Owls scored the first five goals for Southern. Seymour, Pulisciano, Rowe, and Gordon contributed to the Owls early 4-0 lead. Then after a Post goal, Jagodzinski scored to up the lead to 5-1. 
  • Seymour and Gordon scored once more in the first half to give the Owls a 7-2 lead with 17:28 remaining.
  • After Post scored with 14:43 remaining, Takacs and Rowe scored the Owls' last two goals of the half, and Southern took a 9-4 lead into halftime.
 
Second Half
  • Seymour again ignited an Owls run, as her goal 27 seconds into the second half started a string of three straight for Southern to open up a 12-4 lead. Pulisciano also scored during the run, and Seymour capped it off with a goal with 23:16 remaining.
  • Gordon and Takacs both scored in the 20th minute to give Southern a 14-5 lead.
  • Southern then scored three unanswered goals again to increase their lead to 17-6, started by a goal by Takacs with 15:44 remaining and highlighted with two goals by Rowe.
  • Takacs scored in the final minute to seal an 11-point Southern win.

Notes
  • Takacs recorded a career-high five assists in a game, tying a single-game program-record previously set by Kennedy Sherman (Buchanan, N.Y.) against Alderson-Broaddus on March 17, 2015.
  • Takacs recorded nine points in the game, tied for the second most by a Southern player in program history and last done by Samantha Cozzolino (Hamden, Conn.) on March 24, 2019 against Saint Michael's. Allison Kownacki holds the program record with 10, set on March 27, 2007 against American International College. 
  • Takacs also tied her career-high in goals scored with four, last done earlier this week against Dominican College on Feb. 23. 
  • After scoring four goals and recording nine assists last season, Takacs has scored 10 goals and recorded seven assists through the season's first three games. 
  • Seymour tied her career-high with four goals scored, last done twice last season against Post on March 21 and Saint Michael's on March 24, 2019. 
  • Rowe recorded her second consecutive multi-goal game and the 10th of her collegiate career.
  • Rowe scored her 40th career goal in the first half. She became the first Southern player to record 40 goals in her first 20 career games since Emma Farrel (Cheshire, Conn.) did so in 2015.
  • Gordon recorded her fifth career-game with at least three goals scored. Two of them have already occurred this season.
  • Sara Meza (Norwalk, Conn.) tied a career-high with three caused turnovers. 
  • Tess McIntosh (Fairfield, Conn.) recorded a career-high three caused turnovers. 
  • Dating back to last season, Southern has scored at least 10 goals in six consecutive games.
  • Southern has scored at least 10 goals in three consecutive games to open the season for the first time since 2016, when they scored 10 against Merrimack, 13 against Dowling College, and 18 against Post.
  • The 50 goals scored by Southern is their most ever scored in the season's first three games in program history.
  • Southern has allowed just 22 goals through their first three games, their fewest ever to start the season.
  • Southern improves to 7-0 all time against Post University.
