The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team will host New York Institute of Technology of the East Coast Conference for their final non-conference matchup of the season on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.
 
The Owls currently sit in fourth place in the Southwest Division of the NE10, one game ahead of fifth place Pace, and one game behind New Haven and Adelphi for second place. Southern is also three games ahead of sixth place American International. The top five teams in each division play in the conference tournament, with the top three teams in each division automatically earning a spot in the quarterfinals and the top two teams hosting a quarterfinals game.

All-Time Against New York Tech: 2-3
The Last Time They Met: Southern will play New York Tech for the first time since the 2009-10 season, when they played them on Nov. 20, 2009 in Bridgeport, Conn. New York Tech won 82-70. Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) scored 20 points on 6-12, while Chris Harris (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Clyde Chapman (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each chipped in with 11 points. Dexton Williamson (Bridgeport, Conn.) added 10 points of his own.
 
All-Time Against American International: 31-51
The Last Time They Met: Southern will play American International for the second this season, as they previously played at James Moore Field House on Nov. 26. The Yellow Jackets won that game, 82-76. Three Owls scored in double figures, led by junior C.J. Seaforth (Hamden, Conn.), who had team-high 19 points and went 5-10 from three-point range. Freshman Lyron Bennett (Boston, Mass.) also scored 19 points and shot 8-12 from the field. Junior Greg Jones (Bronx, N.Y.) added 13 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Southern has won five consecutive games against American International in Springfield, Mass., dating back to the 2014-15 season. 
 
Last Time Out
  • Southern fell to Saint Anselm, 97-82, in Manchester, N.H. on Saturday, Feb. 1.
  • The Owls had four players score in double figures, as Seaforth led the offense with a team-high 21 points and five made three-pointers.
  • Taurus Adams II (Milwaukee, Wisc.) scored 16 points and went 7-13 from the field, while Jones added 15 points and went a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line.
  • Redshirt junior Isaiah Boissard (Walden, N.Y.) scored 12 points and shot 5-8 from the field and freshman Levar Allen (Richmond, Va.) scored nine points and added a career-high eight assists.

Player Notes
  • Seaforth scored 20 points in a game for the fourth time this season when he scored 21 points against Saint Anselm, and the 11th time in his collegiate career he has scored at least 20 points.
  • Seaforth has scored at least 15 points in nine of his 16 games played this season.  
  • Against Saint Anselm, Seaforth recorded five three-pointers in a game for the eighth time in his career and the third time this season. 
  • Jones is shooting 53.7 percent from the field over his last 10 games played and his averaging 15.4 points per game. 
  • Jones has made 23 of his last 25 free throws, dating back to Jan. 8 against Adelphi. 
  • Adams II has scored in double-figures in 14 of his 16 games played this season.
  • Adams II is averaging 17.4 points per game and 9.8 rebounds per game since Dec. 4 against New Haven, a span of 11 games, while also recording six double-doubles in those 11 games and shooting 57.6 percent from the field.
  • In the month of January, Adams II went 8-14 (57.1 percent) from three-point range. 
  • Over the last two games, Boissard is 14-24 from the field and 5-10 from three-point range, scoring a total of 33 points. 
  • Allen's eight assists against Saint Anselm were a new career-high, and tied a season-high for a Southern player in a game this season. Lyron Bennett (Boston, Mass.) had eight assists against Southern New Hampshire on Jan. 14 and against Franklin Pierce on Jan. 22. 
  • Since Dec. 10 against Saint Rose, Khalil Richard is shooting 46 percent from the field, a span of nine games.
  • Lyron Bennett (Boston, Mass.) is shooting 40.7 percent from three-point range since Nov. 26, a span of 12 games.
  • Jones was named to the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll for the 12th week of the season for his performances against Assumption College and Saint Anselm.
