Men's Basketball Falls To American International College

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball fell to American International College87-65, in a Northeast 10 Conference game at Henry A. Butova Gymnasium. The Owls fall to 12-9 overall and 7-7 in the NE10, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 8-16 overall and 5-10 in the NE10.
 
Freshman Lyron Bennett (Boston, Mass.) scored a team-high 19 points and shot 6-11 from the field, while redshirt junior Isaiah Boissard (Walden, N.Y.) scored 16 points and shot 7-12. Junior Greg Jones (Bronx, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. 
 
How It Happened
  • Both defenses played strong in the opening minutes, but Southern eventually came out with an 8-5 lead with 14:29 remaining in the first half. 
  • AIC cut Southern's lead to 16-15 with 9:36 left, but five straight points by the Owls, capped off by a Boissard three-pointer, gave Southern their largest lead of the half at 21-15. 
  • Southern held a 26-22 lead with 5:13 remaining, but the Yellow Jackets ended the half outscoring the Owls 10-4 to take a 32-30 lead. 
  • AIC took a 44-39 lead with 16:53 remaining coming out of the locker room. Southern responded by going on a 10-0 run, highlighted by C.J. Seaforth (Hamden, Conn.) stealing an AIC pass, making a three-pointer, and converting on a four-point play to take a 49-44 lead. 
  • AIC then went on a 20-0 run to take a 64-49 lead, then extended their lead to 67-51 with 8:08 remaining. 
  • Southern was able to cut the lead back down to 69-59, but AIC went on an 18-6 run to end the game.


Notes
  • Bennett has scored a combined 38 points on 15-23 shooting in two games against AIC this season.
  • Boissard has recorded double-digit point totals in four of his last six games.
  • Jones has scored at least 15 points in three consecutive games and five of his last six games.
  • Jones recorded his third double-double of the season, all of which have came in his last six games played.
