WORCESTER, Mass. -Â The Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team fell to Assumption, 3-2, on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021 in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at Brian Kelly Stadium. The Owls fall to 2-9-1 overall and 2-6-0 in the NE10, while the Greyhounds improve to 2-10-1 overall and 2-7-0 in the NE10.
Jacob Rose (Uncasville, Conn.) and
Matt Surette (Bowie, Md.)Â both recorded goals while
Bailey Bassett (Andover, Conn.)Â had three saves and
Andrey Carvalho (Aluminio, Sao Paulo, Brazil)Â had one save.Â
How It HappenedÂ
First Half
- Rose got the Owls started early, as he gave Southern a 1-0 lead in the third minute of action on a strike for the goal.Â
- Assumption scored late in the first half twice, in the 40th and 44th minute, to take a 2-1 lead into the break.
Second Half
- Assumption added on to their lead with a goal in the 83rd minute.Â
- Surrette gave the Owls life in the winding minutes, as he scored on a penalty kick to bring the score to 3-2, but Assumption was able to hold on for the win.Â
Player Notes
- Rose's goal was the first of his collegiate career. He becomes the fifth Southern player to score their first career goal this season.
- Surette's goal was his first of the season and second of his career. He previously scored on Sept. 13, 2019 against Nyack.Â
- Seven different players have scored a goal for the Owls this season.Â
