Football Drops Northeast 10 Conference Game At Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut State University football team lost a Northeast 10 Conference matchup against Assumption, 26-0, in Worcester, Mass. With the loss, the Owls fall to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the NE10 while Assumption improves to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

First-year Owl Diante Wilson (Union, N.J.) totaled 87 yards on 11 carries, highlighted by a season-high 42 yard run in the second half. Wilson averaged a team-high 7.9 yards-per-carry for the day. The Owls accounted for 181 yards on the ground as T.J. Gardner also ran for 50 yards on 11 carries.

On defense, Hasan Dominick (Jersey City, N.J.) and Joe DiGello (Orange, Conn.) led the Owls with seven tackles each while Dominick also had a sack. Joel Kashila (Lynn, Mass.) had his first career interception in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Assumption scored twice in the first half, and also converted on a field goal attempt to take a 17-0 lead in the first quarter.
  • The second quarter saw Assumption convert on a field goal and score again to take a 26-0 lead into the half.
NOTES
  • The second half saw the Owls pitch a shutout against Assumption, keeping the Greyhounds off the board for the final 30 minutes of play. Southern's defense limited Assumption to just 117 yards of total offense down the stretch. 
  • Wilson has been the highlight for the Owls' offense over the last three games, totaling 255 yards on 40 carries over that span. Wilson is also averaging 6.3 yards-per-carry during that time.
  • Southern's 181 rushing yards are a season-best for the Owls., while its 32 rushes are also a season-high. It was also the most the Owls ran for in one game since they went for 185 against Franklin Pierce on Oct. 5, 2019. 
  • The Owls' running game surpassed the 150-yard mark for the third time in its last four games after totaling 155 against Saint Anselm and 151 against AIC.
  • Kashilas interception gives the Owls' secondary seven for the year and four in its last two games. Seven different Owls have recorded interceptions to date.
  • Dominick's sack was his team-leading third of the season and he now has a team-best 38 tackles for the year.
