SCSU Football Falls To Stonehill In Season Finale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University football team lost to Stonehill, 42-6, in the Owls' final game of the 2021 season. With the loss, the Owls season comes to an end at 4-6 overall and 3-5 in Northeast 10 Conference play while Stonehill wraps-up the season at 8-2 overall and 6-2 in conference action.

Diante Wilson (Union, N.J.) scored the Owls' only touchdown of the game, on a pass from Ralph Gonzalez (Valhalla, N.Y.) for his first career touchdown reception, and Gonzalez's first career touchdown pass.

The Owls' top-two tacklers once-again led the Owls as Hasan Dominick (Jersey City, N.J.)) totaled 12 tackles, including seven solo take-downs and two quarterback hurries, while Robert Nunez (Valley Stream, N.Y.) finished with 10. Kwadir Delgado-McIntyre (Hamden, Conn.) had eight tackles in the game while Ben Eichman (Merrimack, N.H.) finished with seven tackles and his second interception of the season. Elijah Alexandre (Stratford, Conn.) had a fumble recovery and also broke up a pass in the end zone.

NOTES
  • Eichman's interception was his second of the season, and the Owls' 12th of the year. Southern recorded an interception in their last six games, tallying nine in that span.
  • Alexandre's fumble recovery was just the second of the season for the Owls, who also recorded one in their season opener at Central Connecticut.
  • Southern's 89 tackles against Stonehill were a season-high.
  • Izaiah Sanders (Stamford, Conn.) had two receptions in the game for 36 yards, including a 23-yard catch. For the season, Sanders led the team in receptions (48), yards (635) and was tied with Tylon Papallo (Meriden, Conn.) with five touchdown catches.
  • Freshman punter Jack Bachand (Bristol, Conn.) posted his largest punting total of the season with 270 yards on seven punts for a season-best 38.57 average.
  • Shawn Martin (Scotch Plains, N.J.) finished the season with 32 kick returns, for the second-most in a season in program history, while his 724 yards was also the second-most in program history.
