PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team fell to Jefferson, 92-84, at the Gallagher Center on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021. With the loss, the Owls fall to 2-1 overall, while the Rams improve to 3-1.
C.J. Seaforth (Hamden, Conn.) led the team in scoring with a season-high 21 points and shot 9-for-15 from the field and 3-of-6 from three-point range.
Ulyen Coleman (Brockton, Mass.) also scored a season-high 20 points and shot 8-for-11 from the field and 3-for-6 on three-pointers while chipping in five steals.
Lyron Bennett (Boston, Mass.) scored 19 points and dished out seven assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
- Southern Connecticut jumped out to a quick start, going up 12-6 in the first 4 minutes and 15 seconds. Coleman began the game with a made three, while Seaforth scored five points.
- Jefferson was forced to call a timeout and went on 12-1 run to take a 20-13 lead.
- Southern was able to cut the lead to 22-18 with just under 10 minutes remaining, but Jefferson responded by going on a 12-6 run to go up 34-24. Seaforth got the Owls' offense going by scoring seven consecutive points and two layups and a three-pointer, and Bennett capped Southern's scoring run on a made jump shot to bring Southern's deficit back down to five.
- Jefferson closed the half on a 10-0 run to take their largest lead through the first 20 minutes, 48-33.
- Seaforth shot 6-for-8 in the first half while making his only three-point attempt on his way to 13 points, while Bennett scored seven.
Second Half
- Both teams came out of the half evenly matched through the first five minutes, but Aaron Russell (Bowie, Md.) made a three-pointer in the corner to bring the Rams' lead down to 11.
- Southern and Jefferson exchanged baskets over the next five minutes, but a made three-pointer by the Rams gave them a 77-55 lead with 7:40 remaining.
- The Owls began to mount a comeback in the final seven and-a-half minutes. Coleman scored seven of Southern's next 10 points to bring the lead down to single digits, and Boissard made a three point after Jefferson split a pair of free throws to bring the score to 75-68 with four minutes remaining.
- Jefferson upped their lead back up to 10 with 2:46 left, but Russell hit a three-pointer and Bennett and Coleman both made layups to get the score down to 78-75 with under two minutes remaining.
- Southern made four of their last seven shots from the field, but Jefferson went 10-for-10 from the line to close out an eight-point win.

- Seaforth recorded his 12th career game with at least 20 points scored.
- Seaforth has made three three-pointers in all three games played this year so far.
- Coleman recorded his 10th career 20-point game.
- Coleman has scored at least 15 points in all three games this season.
- Coleman's five steals are a new career-high. He previously had two eight other times during his career, last on Jan. 9, 2019 against Merrimack.
- Southern shot 52.4 percent from the field and 45.8 percent from three-point range.
- Southern's 51 point second half was their most in any half since scoring 61 on Nov. 23, 2019 against Concordia.
