Lacrosse Falls to No. 11 Adelphi

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team fell to No. 11 Adelphi, 22-8, in a Northeast 10 Conference game at Jess Dow Field. With the loss, Southern drops to 2-3 overall and in the NE10, while Adelphi improves to 4-3 overall and in the NE10.
 
Hailey Gordon (Niantic, Conn.) led the Owls with season-high four goals and also dished out an assist, while Steph Seymour (North Branford, Conn.) scored two goals and recorded an assist. Bayleigh Takacs (Sparta, N.J.) and Mia Pulisciano (Cheshire, Conn.) also scored goals for the Owls, and Takacs recorded two assists as well. Jettke Gray (Easton, Conn.) also dished out an assist. Kelly Jagodzinski (Stamford, Conn.) recorded a career-high 11 draw controls, tied for sixth most in a game in program history.
 
First Half
  • After Adelphi scored the first five goals of the game, Gordon scored her first of four goals off an assist from Gray with 20:56 remaining in the first half.
  • Adelphi scored the next two goals to stretch the lead to 7-1, but the Owls went on a run of their own, scoring three goals in two-and-a-half minutes to bring the score to 7-4.
  • Pulisciano got the scoring in the run started by scoring off a feed from Seymour, then Seymour scored a goal off an assist from Takacs. Gordon capped off the run with an unassisted goal with 17:10 remaining.
  • Adelphi scored eight straight goals, but Takacs made a great play to end the half by forcing a turnover and scoring as the first half clock expired.
 
Second Half
  • The Panthers scored the next seven goals to take a 22-5 lead, but Southern scored the final three goals of the game.
  • Gordon scored with 6:40 remaining, then scored her fourth and final goal of the game off of Takacs' second assist with 2:52 remaining.
  • Seymour scored in the final minute off of a pass from Gordon.
 
Notes
  • Gordon recorded her 11th career multi-goal game. She has now scored a goal in 13 consecutive games, the longest streak by a Southern player since Samantha Cozzolino scored a goal in 23 straight games from April 26, 2017-March 12, 2019.  
  • Seymour recorded her 10th career mulit-goal game, and her second consecutive game scoring at least two goals.
  • Jagodzinski recorded 11 draw controls, tied for sixth most in program history and the most since Seymour tied the program recorded with 14 on Feb. 24, 2020 against Dominican.
  • Takacs has recorded at least two assists in three consecutive games, the first Southern player to do so in Cozzolino from March 19-March 24, 2019. 
  • Takacs also becomes the first player since at least 2008 at least two assists in three consecutive games to begin her season. 
  • Takacs has recorded a point in 11 consecutive games dating back to the 2019 season.
  • Morgan Chase (Windsor, Conn.) has caused at least two turnovers in all four games she has played in this season. Chase becomes the first Southern player with multiple caused turnovers in four consecutive games since Brianna Grande did so in five consecutive games from April 2-April 24, 2019.
  • Chase also becomes the first player since Carolynn Keal in 2016 with multiple caused turnovers in four consecutive games to begin their season. 
  • Laura Morton (Somers, Conn.) had six saves, giving her 436 for her career.
  • Southern had a season-high 18 draw controls.
