SYRACUSE, N.Y. – In the final regular season game of the season, the Southern Connecticut State University lacrosse team fell to No. 3 ranked Le Moyne, 23-6, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at Ted Grant Field in Syracuse, N.Y. With the loss, Southern drops to 2-6 overall and in the NE10, and while Le Moyne improves to 12-0 overall and in the NE10.
Four different Owls scored goals, led by a pair of goals each by
Hailey Gordon (Niantic, Conn.) and
Bayleigh Takacs (Sparta, N.J.).
Karlie Rowe (Niantic, Conn.) and
Brianna Shaw (Branford, Conn.) also scored goals for Southern, while Takacs and
Steph Seymour (North Branford, Conn.) added an assist each.
Morgan Chase (Windsor, Conn.) scooped up two ground balls and caused one turnover.
First Half
- Le Moyne scored the game's first 12 goals to take the early lead. With 6:40 remaining in the first half, Shaw scored her second career goal to put Southern on the board. Takacs immediately followed Shaw's goal up with one of her own on a free-position shot.
- Le Moyne scored the final goal of the half and took a 13-2 lead into the break.
Second Half:
- Le Moyne extended their lead to 17-2 in the opening 10 minutes of the half before Gordon scored her first goal of the game.
- After two goals by the Dolphins, Rowe scored her team-best 13th goal of the season and Southern's fourth of the day.
- Le Moyne extended their lead to 23-4 before Gordon and Takacs scored their second goals of the game in the final minutes, but Le Moyne held on for a 23-6 win.
Notes
- Takacs has recorded a point in 13 consecutive games dating back to the 2019 season.
- Takacs has recorded at least three points in five of her six games played this season, and has an assist in six consecutive games to begin the season.
- Takacs is the first Southern player with an assist in six consecutive games since Samantha Cozzolino did so from March 12-March 27, 2019, and the first to do so in her first six games of the season since at least 2008.
- Gordon's goals were her 11th and 12th of the season, and extended her team-leading point total to 21.
- Rowe has recorded a point in 29 of her 30 career games played and has scored six goals in her last three games.
- Shaw's goal was her second of her career. She previously scored in the Owls' first matchup against Le Moyne on April 7, 2021 at Jess Dow Field.
- Chase's streak of six consecutive games with a caused turnover to start the season came to an end, but she has caused at least one turnover in nine consecutive games dating back to last season.
- Molly Kelly (Colchester, Conn.) had a career-high tying three draw controls, last done on April 24, 2021 against American International.
- Kelly has also caused at least one turnover in all eight games this season, the longest streak in a single-season since Carolynn Keal caused at least one turnover in 11 straight games from March 17-April 21, 2018.
