PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team lost to nationally-ranked No. 18 Pace, 20-7, in a Northeast 10 Conference game played in Pleasantville, N.Y. The loss drops the Owls to 1-1 on the season and in the NE10, while Pace improves to 5-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

Junior Karlie Rowe (Niantic, Conn.) led six-different Owls scorers with two goals while junior Bayleigh Takacs (Sparta, N.J.) had a team-high two assists and three points after adding a goal. Senior Hailey Gordon (Niantic, Conn.), freshman Savannah Feinberg (Sound Beach, N.Y.), junior Molly Kelly (Colchester, Conn.) and Steph Seymour (North Branford, Conn.) also scored for the Owls.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Pace scored inside the first two minutes of the game, before Gordon planted her first goal of the season to tie it at 1-1. Pace responded with a nine-goal run to take a 10-1 lead.
  • Rowe scored her first goal of the afternoon off a pass from Takacs to cut the Setters lead to eight goals before the Setters rattled off four goal goals over the remainder of the half to take a 14-2 into the locker room at the break.
  • The Setters pushed their lead to 18-2 over the first 10 minutes of the second half before the game turned favor of the Owls, who outscored the Setters, 5-2, over the final 18 minutes of action.
  • Seymour and Feinberg scored back-to-back goals over a two-minute stretch before Pace answered. After Takacs and Rowe hooked-up for Rowe's second goal of the game, Pace scored their final goal of the match with just under nine minutes on the clock.
  • Kelly and Takacs scored down the stretch before the final horn.
NOTES
  • Rowe's two goals give her 48 for her career, the most among all active Owls players.
  • Gordon's first goal of the season came off a free-position show and gives her 42 for her career, second to Rowe's 48.
  • The duo also stand at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, in active career points with Rowe sitting at 54 and Gordon with 52.
  • Takacs' goal was her first of the season, also coming off a FPS, after leading the Owls with 12 goals last year. Takacs also had team-highs in 2020 in assists (7) and points (19).
  • Gordon has now scored in 11-straight games, dating back to the end of the 2019 season in which she scored in the Owls' final four games before scoring in each of their six games in 2020.
  • Rowe saw an 11-game streak end with the Owls' final match of the year in 2020, but now has five goals in her first two games of the 2021 season. She now has 18 goals in her last seven games, and 35 over her last 15 games played for the Owls.
  • Feinberg's marker against the Setters gives her four for the year, on five shots-on-goal for a team-best .800 shooting percentage among players who have suited up for both of the Owls' games to date.
