Women's Lacrosse Falls To No. 3 Le Moyne

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team lost to No. 3 Le Moyne, 18-6, in a Northeast 10 Conference game at Jess Dow Field, the Owls' home opener. With the loss, Southern drop sto 1-2 overall and in NE10 play while Le Moyne improves to 6-0 overall and in conference action.

Bayleigh Takacs (Sparta, N.J.) factored into four of the Owls' six goals with two goals and two assists. Hailey Gordon (Niantic, Conn.) had a goal and two assists while Steph Seymour (North Branford, Conn.) scored once and assisted on another. Karlie Rowe (Niantic, Conn.) and Brianna Shaw (Branford, Conn.) added goals for the Owls.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Southern jumped out to an early lead as they scored three-straight unanswered goals in the game's first four minutes to take a 3-0 lead. Takacs put the Owls on the board before setting up markers from Rowe and Gordon.
  • After Le Moyne trimmed the Owls' lead to 3-2 with back-to-back goals, Shaw got on the board to give Southern a 4-2 lead.
  • From there, the Dolphins scored eight-straight goals to take a 12-4 lead into halftime. They scored three unanswered coming out of the break to take a 15-4 lead before Takacs netted her second of the game off a pass from Seymour to pull the Owls within 10, 15-5.
  • Le Moyne pushed its lead to 18-5 before Seymour scored with 1:29 on the clock to make it 18-6.
NOTES
  • The Owls' 3-0 lead against the No. 3 Dolphins was its largest lead against a ranked opponent in program history.
  • With her two-goal, two-assist performance, Takacs now has three goals and four assists for a team-best seven points on the year. Her four points today were the most by a Southern player in a game this season.
  • Takacs has recorded a point in 10 consecutive games dating back to the 2019 season.
  • Rowe adds to her team points-lead with her sixth of the season.
  • Rowe has recorded a point in all 25 games of her collegiate career.
  • Seymour pushes her season totals to three goals and two assists while Gordon now has two goals and two assists for the year.
  • Dating back to 2018, Gordon has scored a goal in 11 consecutive games, the longest streak by a Southern player since Rowe scored in 11 straight games from March 30, 2019-March 4, 2020.
  • Gordon's two assists tied her career-high, last done on  Feb. 26, 2020 vs Bridgeport and Feb. 23, 2020 vs Dominican. 
  • Shaw's goal was her first career goal.  
  • Laura Morton (Somers, Conn.) saved a season-high 11 shots, and now has 423 career saves. 
  • Southern only had 10 turnovers, their fewest in a game since having five on March 12, 2019 against New Haven.
