DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - The Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team lost to Mercy College, 2-0, in their season opener at Mercy Field in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021. With the loss, Southern falls to 0-1 overall, while Mercy improves to 1-1.
Santiago Slapak (Manuel Alberti, Buenos Aires, Argentina), Lennox Strelow (Bremen, Germany), Alex da Cunha (Norderstedt, Germany), Arnold Signell (Lidingö, Sweden), Joshi Munoz (New Haven, Conn.), Jalen Jean (West Hempstead, N.Y.), Zachary Tuccitto (Clinton, Conn.), Juan Alava (Guayaquil, Ecuador), and
Matthew Jaansalu (Kingston, Ontario), all made their Southern debuts during the game.
Strelow, da Cunha, Signell, and
Matt Surette (Bowie, Md.) all took one shot apiece, while Tuccitto recorded two shots. Tucchitto and da Cunha both had one shot on goal.
Bailey Bassett (Andover, Conn.) had six saves as the goalkeeper.
Scoring Plays
- Mercy scored a goal during the first minute of the game to take a 1-0 lead.
- Mercy scored the final goal of the game on a penalty kick during the 89th minute to cap off their win.
Notes
- Basset's six saves were the second most he has recorded in a game in his collegiate career, and the most since he recorded a career-high nine against Saint Anselm on Oct. 26, 2018.
