SCSU Men's Swimming & Diving Opens Season With Split At West Chester

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – In a tri-meet hosted by West Chester University, Southern Connecticut men's swimming & diving defeated Shippensburg, 164-108, but fell to West Chester, 197-89.

Mattheus Silva (Stratford, Conn.) won the 1 Meter and 3 Meter diving events. Franklin Kuhn (Tolland, Conn.) posted three top-three finishes and Mason Wilde (Tolland, Conn.) was the Owls' top finisher in three events.

200 Yard Medley Relay
The 200 Yard Medley Relay team of Collin Doyle (Hartford, Conn.), Chandler Tucker (Bellmore, N.Y.), Henry Velazquez (Fairfield, Conn.) and Kuhn finished third with a time of 1:37.76.  

1,000 Yard Freestyle
Dylan Prescher (Ellington, Conn.) was the Owls top finisher in the 1,000 Free with a time of 10:24.33.  

200 Yard Freestyle
Kuhn placed second in the 200 Free with a time of 1:46.22.

100 Yard Backstroke
Tucker posted a 53.99 for third place in the 100 Back.

100 Yard Breaststroke
Swimming in his first collegiate event, Wilde finished fifth in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:02.13.  

200 Yard Butterfly
Velazquez paced the Owls in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:59.83 for fourth place, followed by Mike Aiello (Monroe, Conn.) in fifth place at 2:02.80.  

50 Yard Freestyle
Kunh posted his third top-three finish of the meet with a time of 22.04, just off the lead of 21.99, in the 50 Free. Tucker was close behind in fourth place at 22.28.  

100 Yard Freestyle
Tucker was Southern's top finisher in the 100 Free with a time of 47.83 for fourth place, while Kuhn was fifth at 48.96.  

200 Yard Breaststroke
Wilde posted a second-place finish in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:17.54.  

500 Yard Freestyle
Prescher finished fifth with a time of 5:03.55.

100 Yard Butterfly
Velazquez posted a 54.16 in the 100 Fly for fifth place.  

200 Yard Individual Medley
Wilde was also the Owls' top finisher in the 200 IM with a time of 2:08.74 for sixth place while Kobe Dominguez (West Hartford, Conn.) followed in seventh place at 2:09.97 and Derek Melanson (Plantsville, Conn.) was close behind at 2:10.30.

400 Yard Freestyle Relay
Newcomers Jack Fry (Southbury, Conn.) and J.D. Starkey (Madison, Conn.) joined Aiello and Doyle for a time of 3:28.32 in the 400 Free Relay.  

1 Meter Diving
Silva won the 1 Meter Diving event with a score of 248.78.  

3 Meter Diving
Silva made it a sweep of the diving events with a win in the 3 Meter event with a score of 181.35.
