Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

SCSU Men's Soccer Downs American International, 2-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Southern Connecticut men's soccer blanked American International College, 2-0, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup in Springfield, Mass. With the win, Southern improved to 8-4-3 overall and 5-3-2 in NE10 play while American International drops to 2-7-5 overall and 1-5-3 in the NE10.

The Owls and Yellow Jackets were even through the first 45 minutes of play, with Southern out-shooting AIC, 3-1, in shots on goal. Early in the second half, and in control of the ball at midfield, the Owls turned the ball over. Umberto Catale recovered to steal the ball back and then spin at midfield and send a perfect pass downfield that landed 10 years in front of Zacharty Tuccitto who began his run downfield. Tuccitto stepped between two defenders and lifted a shot over the outstretched arm of AIC's keeper to put Southern out in front, 1-0.

Late in the half, Southern set up another goal when AIC was whistled for a trip in the box. Yannick Hilpert took the penalty kick, sliding a shot to the bottom right corner to give Southern a two-goal victory.
Devin Juan (Meriden, Conn.) only needed one save for his fifth shutout of the season. Hilpert's goal gives him a team-leading seven goals for the year while Tuccitto scored his third of the season.

Southern is back on the pitch on Tuesday, Oct. 25 when it plays its final regular-season game at Bentley at 3 p.m. The Owls, currently in second place in the Northeast 10 Standings with 17 points, are in a position to host a first-round game on Thursday, Oct. 27.
