The Postseason Picture
  • With three NE10 games remaining on its schedule, and a crowded standings board, the Owls have an opportunity of making the postseason bracket for the fifth-straight season.
  • Southern is currently 4-5 and tied for seventh with Saint Rose, who the Owls defeated on Tuesday, Oct. 25 in a five-set thriller.
  • Behind SCSU and Saint Rose are Le Moyne and Pace, both at 3-6 with three games to play. The Owls defeated Pace but lost to Le Moyne in conference play.
  • Following Friday night's matchup, the Owls will face Saint Michael's on Friday, Nov. 4 and Saint Anselm on Saturday, Nov. 5 in their season finale.
  • Southern could potentially finish as high as fourth place, and secure a home match in the NE10 Tournament First Round, but would need to win its final three games with Saint Anselm and Southern New Hampshire losing their remaining games.
  • Three wins in their final three games would clinch the Owls a spot in the tournament.
  • Two wins and a loss by Le Moyne and/or Pace would also clinch a spot.
  • If the Owls were only to win one, or less, of their final three matches, then their chances would depend on the outcomes of other matches.
Owls Notes
  • Despite a 3-3 record in conference play for the month of October, the Owls picked up key victories against Saint Rose, Pace and Franklin Pierce to position the Owls ahead of them in the standings in case of a tie.
  • Southern Connecticut and New Haven faced each other earlier this month, in a non-conference matchup, that saw the Chargers sweep the Owls in three sets.
  • A win against New Haven on Friday would move the Owls into sixth place.
