SCSU Men's Soccer Tops Saint Michael's, 2-1

COLCHESTER, VT. - Southern Connecticut's Alessio Caradolfo (Sicily, Italy) scored his first career goal to break a 1-1 tie against Saint Michael's and give the Owls a 2-1 Northeast 10 Conference victory in Colchester, Vt. With the win, Southern improves to 6-3-3 overall and 3-2-2 in NE10 play while Saint Michael's drops to 0-8-4 on the season and 0-4-3 in conference games.

Leroy Best (Bielefeld, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany) scored for the third-straight game off a penalty kick in the 11th minute of play. After Raffaele Ciarleglio (Branford, Conn.) was taken down in the box, Best took the kick and buried his third goal of the season. For Best, he totaled just two points in his first seven games of the season, but has totaled three goals and three assists in the Owls' last three games, in which Southern is 2-0-1.

Saint Michael's Amos Schramm answered with his first goal of the season, also off a penalty kick, in the 50th minute of play.

Locked in a 1-1, the Owls were pressing before Ciarleglio was taken down again, this time from just outside of the box. Hideki Morales (Bethel, Conn.) took the kick for the Owls, sending the ball to the opposite post. After it was knocked down in traffic, Caradolfo fought through a pair of defensemen and blasted a shot over the Purple Knights' keeper to put the Owls on top, 2-1.

Devin Juan (Meriden, Conn.) turned in another solid performance for the Owls, turning away everything that Saint Michaels' threw at him to the tune of seven saves for the win.

Southern returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 11 when it hosts Assumption for its final home game of the regular season at 7 p.m. at Jess Dow Field. Senior NIght festivities for Alessio Caradolfo, Santiago Slapak and Andrey Carvalho are slated for the start of the game.
