SCSU Men's Basketball Drops Season Opener To Post

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – At the Bridgeport Tipoff Classic, hosted by University of Bridgeport, Southern Connecticut men's basketball lost to Post, 64-53, in its season-opener.
 
First-year Owl Marty Silvera (Worcester, Mass.), who joined the Owls after transferring from NCAA Division I St. Peter's, led the Owls with 14 points while Ulyen Coleman (Brockton, Mass.) totaled 12 points. Cherif Diarra (Bronx, N.Y.) had eight points and nine rebounds, five coming on the offensive end, while Sean James (West Hartford, Conn.) had eight points off of the bench.
 
Coleman scored the Owls' first eight points of the game, behind a pair of three-pointers. The Owls were in control of the score through the first 10 minutes of the game, taking a 16-12 lead on back-to-back three-pointers by Silvera and James. Post pulled away with a 20-6 run to close the half with a 32-22 lead.
 
The Eagles pushed their lead to 15 over the first four minutes of the second half before Southern answered with a 15-5 run to cut Post's lead to five points, 42-37, with 8:51 to play with Silvera leading the way with seven points. Post was able to push it's lead back into the double-figures and shot 45.55 in the second half as well as 11-for-12 from the free throw line to seal the win.
 
Silvera scored 11 of his 14 points in the second half, while Diarra had six points and six boards down the stretch.
 
The Owls are back in action on Sunday, Nov. 13 when they face Bridgeport at 3 p.m. at Hubbell Gymnasium.
