Southern Connecticut men's basketball will host Caldwell for its Home Opener on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at James Moore Field House in New Haven, Conn. The Owls and Cougars both enter the game with records of 0-2 in search of their first wins.

Southern is coming off a pair of season-opening losses to Post, 64-53, and Bridgeport, 90-75, in its first weekend of the 2022-23 season at the Bridgeport Tipoff Classic.
 
Owls Notes
Through the Owls' first two games:
  • Ulyen Coleman is averaging a team-high 17 points through two games, after totaling 12 against post and 22 against Bridgeport.
  • Coleman also totaled three rebounds and two assists against Post.
  • He enters Wednesday night's contest against Caldwell with 998 career points. His next basketball will make him the 32nd member of Southern Connecticut's 1,000 Point Club, and the first since C.J. Seaforth last season.
  • Coleman has averaged 13.3 points per game for his career, which spans 75 games, while his career-best average of 14.5 came in 2018-19.
  • Coleman also won NE10 Rookie of the Year honors as a freshman in 2017-18.
  • In his Owls' debut, St. Peter's transfer Marty Silvera led the Owls with 14 points as well as five rebounds and two steals. Silvera followed that game with an 18-point outing against Bridgeport and is averaging 16 points per game.
  • Also making his Owls' debut, after sitting out last season, Cherif Diarra averaged 8.0 points and 8.5 rebounds this past weekend. Diarra had eight points and nine rebounds against Post, and eight points and eight boards against Bridgeport.
  • Sean James had a season-best four assists against Bridgeport, and converted on 2-of-4 from three-point range for the weekend.
  • Logan Bagshaw is 2-for-3 from long range to start the year.
Scouting The Caldwell Cougars
  • Caldwell also stands at 0-2 for the year after season-opening losses to Assumption, 82-72, and Saint Michael's, 63-59.
  • Darnell Evans leads the Cougars with 18 points per game as well as 4.5 rebounds, four assists and 2.5 steals per game.
  • Evans opened the year with 20 points in the Cougars' loss to Assumption.
  • Mark Heber enters the game with a 13.0 points per game average
