SCSU Men's Indoor Track & Field To Compete At Yale Season Opener

Southern Connecticut men's indoor track & field will travel down the road to Coxe Cage in New Haven, Conn. for Yale University's Season Opener. The Owls will compete against a field of NCAA Division I institutions including Columbia, Hartford, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart and Yale.

Schedule of Events

Adelino Daveiga (Cape Verde, Africa) will start things off for the Owls with the Weight Throw at 9 a.m.
Jason Sawicki (West Haven, Conn.) will compete in the High Jump at 10 a.m.
Cameron Belton (Baltic, Conn.) and Daveiga will head to the Shot Put pit at 11 a.m.
The Owls will field three athletes in the Long Jump at 11 a.m. in Mehki Tyson-Slaughter (Windsor, Conn.), Riley Bjornberg (Wallingford, Conn.) and Joshua Lanzieri (Seymour, Conn.).
Tyson-Slaughter will also compete in the Triple Jump at 1 p.m.
Southern will take five of the nine spots in the Pole Vault at 1 p.m., featuring Oliver Hayes (Ridgefield, Conn.), Zach Burleigh (Southington, Conn.), Nathaniel Llanos (Danbury, Conn.), Hayden Rovelli (Durham, Conn.) and Shane Smith (Pawcatuck, Conn.).
At 12:30 p.m., Divine Edwards (Hartford, Conn.), Besufekad Opstrup (Madison, Conn.), Ty Phelan (Watertown, Conn.), Rocco Samoker (Derby, Conn.) and Nolan Scott (Branford, Conn.) will compete in the 300 Meter Dash.
At 1:20 p.m., the 60 Meter Dash prelims will feature Noah Conrod (Bristol, Conn.), Eli Henry (Stratford, Conn.), Christ N'Dabian (Bridgeport, Conn.), Tariq Phillips (Waterbury, Conn.), Samoker and Naszier Torrence-Robinson (New Haven, Conn.), with the finals scheduled for 1:45 p.m.
Jared Russo (Hamden, Conn.) will compete in the 60 Meter Hurdles at 1:30 p.m.
At 2:10 p.m., Carlum Caldwell (Newington, Conn.), Hunter Dale (Storrs, Conn.), Ramsley Exantus (Stratford, Conn.), Opstrup and Scott will run in the 500 Meter Dash.
The 4x400 relays are slated for 3 p.m.

The Owls Season Opener

Southern opened the Indoor season last weekend with the Art Kadish Elm City Classic as well as Boston University's Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener.
Southern placed three student-athletes on the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll in Cameron Belton, Eli Henry and Shane Smith.
At the Art Kadish Elm City Classic, Cameron Belton (Baltic, Conn.) broke the meet record in the Shot Put with a throw of 16.32m (53'5").
At Boston University's Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, Eli Henry (Stratford, Conn.) posted the top NCAA Divsion II time of the season in the 300 Meters, finishing with a time of 33.95.
At the Art Kadish Elm City Classic, Shane Smith (Stonington, Conn.) won the Heptathlon after winning the 55 Meter Hurdles with a time of 8.19, the 1,000 Meters with a time of 2:51.07, and the Shot Put with a distance of 12.64m. He also finished second in the Pole Vault at 4.12m, and second in the Long Jump at 6.32m. He compiled a personal-best 4761 points, which is also the eighth best score in SCSU Indoor history.

Following its competition at Yale's Season Opener, the Owls will take a break for the Holidays and return to action on Saturday, Jan. 14 when it hosts the I95 Showdown at James Moore Fieldhouse.
