Southern Connecticut men's basketball will host College of Saint Rose for a Northeast 10 Conference matchup on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022 at James Moore Fieldhouse at 2:00 p.m. The Owls enter the weekend with a record of 2-2 in NE10 play and 4-4 overall while Saint Rose is 6-5 overall and 1-4 in five NE10 games.

Scouting The Owls
  • Southern is coming off an 82-56 win at Adelphi that saw four Owls finish in double figures.
  • It was also the most points the Owls scored this season since their 83-point effort against Molloy on Nov. 22. 
  • Southern has won six of its last seven games against Saint Rose including its last three games against the Golden Knights at James Moore Fieldhouse.
  • Marty Silvera led four Owls in double figures with 16 points after hitting on 6-of-11 from the floor and 3-of-4 from three-point range. 
  • Ulyen Coleman totaled 14 points and six rebounds while Jahlijah Grant had a break-out game with 12 points in 24 minutes. 
  • Sean James had 11 points, six rebounds and four assists while Cherif Diarra had a team, season-best 14 rebounds to go along with eight points, three assists and three steals.
  • For the year, Silvera is averaging 11.6 points with 5.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists as well as 2.3 steals per game, which leads the NE10.
  • Ulyen Coleman is averaging a team-leading 13.1 points per game, with 3.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists per contest.
  • Sean James, named to the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll on Monday, is averaging 10.1 points while shooting 43.3% (13-30) from three-point range.
  • James is also the only player in the Owls' lineup to score in double figures five-straight games and is averaging a team-best 11.6 points per game in that span.
  • Kazell Stewart is averaging 10.0 points and 4.8 rebounds per game and was named the NE10 Rookie of the Week earlier this season.
  • Stewart ranks second in the NE10 with a 64.2% (34-53) field goal percentage.
  • Zack Penn averages 6.4 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while Cherif Diarra leads the Owls with 6.9 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per contest while averaging 5.9 points per game.
  • Diarra also leads the NE10 with 29 offensive rebounds at a 3.6 per-game clip while ehis 1.3 blocks per game rank fifth.   
Scouting The Golden Knights
  • Saint Rose enters the weekend with a record of 6-5 overall and 1-4 in NE10 play.
  • The Golden Knights have won back-to-back games, defeating Southern New Hampshire and Goldey-Beacom, which followed back-to-back losses to Saint Anselm and Le Moyne.
  • The Golden Knights are 2-2 away from their home court for the year.
  • Shane O'Dell leads the Golden Knights with 15.7 points while also posting team-highs with 7.7 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game, as well as 1.4 blocks.
  • O'Dell has cooled over his last three games, totaling 21 points while shooting 6-for-23. He has however totaled 22 rebounds and 22 assists in that span.
  • Eric Fleming averages 14 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest. Fleming is coming off a season-high 31 points against Goldey-Beacom in which he hit on 11-of-19 from the floor.
  • Juran Ligonde checks in with 11.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

Following its tilt against Saint Rose, the Owls play at Holy Family on Saturday, Dec. 17 and at Bloomfield on Monday, Dec. 19. Southern returns to James Moore Fieldhouse on Thursday, Dec. 29 to host Mercy at 3:30 p.m. before returning to NE10 play at home against American International on Saturday, Dec. 31 at 3:30 p.m.
