ALBANY, N.Y. - The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team was defeated by The College of Saint Rose, 93-61, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022. The Owls fall to 7-16 overall and 4-13 in the NE10, while the Golden Knights improve to 11-11 overall and 8-9 in the NE10.
C.J. Seaforth (Hamden, Conn.) scored the 1,000th point of his collegiate career during the first half of action, and totaled 10 points for the game on 5-for-11 shooting.
Lyron Bennett (Boston, Mass.) had a team-high 16 points, while
Isaiah Boissard (Walden, N.Y.) scored 12.
Ulyen Coleman (Brockton, Mass.) had four steals and seven rebounds.
How It Happened
First Half
- Southern got off to a quick start to take a 9-0 lead five minutes into the game. Seaforth scored four of the points, with his 1,000th career point coming during the sequence. Southern held Saint Rose to 0-for-7 shooting to begin the game.
- The Owls maintained a 15-6 lead at the 13:05 mark. Saint Rose took their first lead of the game at 21-19 with 8:19 remaining, but Jamaal Waters (Hartford, Conn.) scored on a dunk and Leo Chaikin (South Hero, Vt.) converted on a layup to give Southern the lead back.
- After the score was tied at 25, Saint Rose ended the half on an 18-0 run to take a 43-25 lead into halftime.
Second Half
- Southern cut the lead down to 47-34 at the 14:51 mark after a free throw from Waters. An 11-0 run increased Saint Rose's lead again before Southern went on a 14-8 spurt. Boissard scored eight of Southern's points and had a dunk during the run.
- Saint Rose then ended the game outscoring Southern 24-11 to win.
Notes
- Seaforth upped his career point total to 1,004, and has scored 958 points in a Southern uniform.
- Coleman now has scored 952 career points.
- Bennett has 10 games this season with at least 15 points scored. He scored exactly 16 points in both games against the Golden Knights.
- Seaforth recorded his fourth game this season with at least three steals.
