NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut State University lacrosse team lost to No. 20 nationally ranked Bentley, 18-9, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at Jess Dow Field on Friday, April 15, 2022. With the loss, the Owls fell to 3-9 overall and 2-7 in the NE10, while Bentley improved to 6-5 overall and 5-4 in the NE10.
Savannah Feinberg (Sound Beach, N.Y.),
Bayleigh Takacs (Sparta, N.J.), and
Alexandra Ruel (Ivoryton, Conn.) all recorded two goals each to lead Southern, while Feinberg added an assist.
Kelly Jagodzinski (Stamford, Conn.) had two assists, and
Karlie Rowe (Niantic, Conn.),
Brianna Shaw (Branford, Conn.), and
Mia Pulisciano (Cheshire, Conn.) all scored one goal each. Shaw also had four ground balls and caused four turnovers.
How It Happened
First Quarter
- Pulisciano scored the first goal of the game to give the Owls an early lead. Bentley then scored five consecutive goals to open up a 5-1 lead.
- Shaw broke the Bentley run with a goal at the 5:31 mark, with Jagodzisnki recording her second assist of the quarter. Feinberg followed that up with a goal to cut the Falcons' lead to two.
- Bentley added another goal to end the quarter to take a 6-3 lead.
Second Quarter
- Bentley opened the second with a goal to retake a four-goal lead.
- Takacs and Feinberg both scored on free-position shots to again cut the lead down to two at 7-5 with 5:14 remaining.
- The Falcons ended the half on a 3-0 run to take a 10-5 lead into the break.
Third Quarter
- Takacs scored the opening goal of the half at the 12:22 mark to make the score 10-6, Bentley.
- After two Falcon goals, Feinberg connected on a pass to Ruel for a goal. Bentley tacked on one more goal and took a 12-7 lead into the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter
- Bentley outscored Southern, 5-2, in the final 15 minutes.
- Ruel scored her second goal of the game with 13:28 remaining, then Rowe scored with 6:12 left.
Notes
- Feinberg has recorded at least two goals in back-to-back games for the first time in her collegiate career.
- Ruel has scored at least two goals in two consecutive games for the first time this season.
- Takacs and Shaw have scored in every game so far this season, and Takacs has scored multiple goals in 11 of 12 games played.
- Takacs has now recorded 91 points in her career, and has recorded at least one point in 27 consecutive games dating back to April 13, 2019.
- Rowe now has 102 career points, two shy of tying Elaina Heiple for eighth most in program history. She also has 84 career goals, and has recorded at least one goal or one assist in 40 of her 43 career games.
- Shaw tied her career-high in ground balls and turnovers with four each. She last had four ground balls on April 30, 2021 against New Haven, and last had four caused turnovers in Southern's last game, April 13, 2022 also against New Haven.
- Jagodzinski has her second career game with at least two assists, and her first since having three against Franklin Pierce on March 30, 2019.
