Lacrosse Defeated By No. 14 Stonehill

EASTON, MASS. - The Southern Connecticut State University lacrosse team lost to No. 14 nationally ranked Stonehill, 20-6, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at W.B. Mason Stadium on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. With the loss, the Owls fell to 3-10 overall and 2-8 in the NE10, while Skyhawks improved to 11-2 overall and 9-1 in the NE10. Stonehill is also currently ranked No. 11 in the U.S. Lacrosse Magazine Division II Poll.

Five different Southern players scored goals, with Karlie Rowe (Niantic, Conn.) scoring two. Alexandra Ruel (Ivoryton, Conn.), Bayleigh Takacs (Sparta, N.J.), Brianna Shaw (Branford, Conn.), and Savannah Feinberg (Sound Beach, N.Y.) all scored one goal each. Shaw also caused three turnovers. 

How It Happened
First Quarter
  • Despite Stonehill scoring the first three goals of the game, Southern hung around with the Skyhawks in the opening minutes and responded with goals by Rowe and Feinberg to cut the lead to 4-2.
  • Stonehill scored the final goal of the quarter to take a 5-2 lead.
Second Quarter
  • Shaw scored with 11:30 remaining in the half to cut the lead to 6-3. 
  • Stonehill scored six straight goals to end the half.
Third Quarter
  • Ruel and Takacs teamed up to score two of the first three goals in the third quarter, but the Skyhawks scored the final three goals of the third. 
Fourth Quarter
  • A beautiful pass from Ruel set up Rowe's second goal of the game in the final quarter before Stonehill capped off their win. 

Notes
  • Rowe now has 104 career points, tied with Elaina Heiple for eighth most in program history and one shy of tying Kennedy Sherman. She also has 86 career goals, and has recorded at least one goal or one assist in 41 of her 44 career games.
  • Takacs and Shaw have scored in every game so far this season. 
  • Takacs has now recorded 92 points in her career, and has recorded at least one point in 28 consecutive games dating back to April 13, 2019.
  • Shaw has caused at least three turnovers in four consecutive games, the first player in program history since at least 2008 to do so. 
  • Shaw has also caused 26 turnovers so far this season, fourth most in program history. 
  • Ruel recorded her second game this season with a goal and an assist, and her first since Feb. 23 against Molloy.
