SCSU Baseball Falls To Le Moyne, 6-1; Second Game Suspended

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut baseball lost the third game of its four-game Northeast 10 Conference Southwest Division series against Le Moyne, 6-1. The fourth game was suspended following the top of the 3rd inning due to inclement weather. The Owls drop to 16-6 overall and 3-3 in the NE10 while Le Moyne improves to 11-12 overall and 2-1 in NE10 play.

Chad Fedeli was 2-for-3 with a double while Mike DeMartino drove in the Owls' only run of the game, while Izaiah Walker was 1-for-3 with a double. Steven Phillips took the loss for the Owls after giving up four runs on six hits over four innings. Mike Ferrett pitched a scoreless seventh inning.
Le Moyne took a 2-0 lead in their first at-bat as Ty Syta singled home Zach Brush before Jason Boule drove in Drew Carroll. Boule made it 3-0 when he drove in Carroll in the third inning.

In the bottom of the third, Bill Sullivan was hit by a pitch before moving to third on a base hit by Andrew Eng. After Connor Goggins popped up for the first out of the inning, DeMartino singled to center field to plate the Owls' lone run. Le Moyne scored three more times in the final three innings to take the 6-1 decision.

The second game was stopped after the Dolphins hit in the top of the third inning due to heavy rain. Le Moyne put a run across in the top of the first, before the Owls answered with a three-run bottom of the inning. Tony Zambito drew a walk before Sullivan doubled down the line. After Andrew Eng hit a ground ball back to the mound, Connor Goggin hit a towering shot to left-center field to give the Owls a 3-1 lead. Le Moyne tied the game in the top of the third inning on a two-run single by Nick Nevins that scored Brush and Carroll.

NOTES
  • Southern Connecticut head coach Tim Shea currently sits at 498 career wins and need two more for No. 500. The Owls will travel to Saint Rose on Wednesday, Apr. 6 before hosting Adelphi for a four-game set on Saturday, Apr. 9 and Sunday, Apr. 10.
  • Joe Nemchek started the second game for the Owls, hurling three innings of one-hit ball while four walks and a pair of Southern errors tagged the Owls' southpaw for three runs (two earned) while he struck out four.
  • Andrew Eng extended his hitting streak to eight games with his single in the first game.
  • DeMartino's RBI was his sixth in his last six games.
  • Sullivan is hitting .393 (30-84) and is one of six hitters in the NE10 with a batting average of .390-or-higher and one of four with 30 hits to date.
  • He's also of six players in the conference with an on-base percentage of .500-or-higher.
  • In addition, his 30 runs scored are the second-most in the conference.
