Lacrosse Upended By Southern New Hampshire

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Southern Connecticut State University lacrosse team lost to Southern New Hampshire, 15-5, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at Penmen Stadium on Saturday, April 9, 2022. With the loss, the Owls fall to 3-7 overall and 2-5 in the NE10, while the Penmen improve to 6-3 overall and 4-3 in the NE10.

Bayleigh Takacs (Sparta, N.J.) scored two goals for Southern, while Brianna Shaw (Branford, Conn.) and Kelly Jagodzinski (Stamford, Conn.)  added one each. Jordan Fisher (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) also scored a goal, the first of her career. Takacs and Jagodzinski also scooped up four ground balls and Shaw caused three turnovers. Alexandra Ruel (Ivoryton, Conn.) had one assist. 

How It Happened
First Quarter
  • SNHU scored the only goals in the quarter, and led 4-0 after the first.
Second Quarter
  • SNHU scored a goal to begin the quarter to start off with a 5-0 lead.
  • Southern then found their offense, as they scored three consecutive goals to cut into the SNHU lead. 
  • Takacs began the scoring with a goal on a free-position shot, then scored again at the 5:39 mark. Ruel then made a pass to Jagodzinski that led to the third straight goal for Southern. 
  • SNHU scored four unanswered goals before Shaw found the back of the next right at the end of the quarter, but SNHU took a 9-3 lead into halftime. 
Third Quarter
  • The Penmen scored all three goals in the third quarter. 
Fourth Quarter
  • SNHU outscored Southern 3-1 in the final quarter. Fisher scored Southern's first career goal at the 2:52 mark. 
Notes
  • Takacs has now scored 53 career goals and is now at 87 career points. 
  • Takacs has scored in every game this season, and has scored at least two goals in nine of 10 games.
  • Takacs has recorded at least one point in 25 consecutive games dating back to April 13, 2019.
  • Shaw also has scored a goal in every game this season. 
  • Jagodzinski's goal gave her 40 career points. 
  • Fisher's goal was the first of her career.
