Men's Soccer Takes Down Staten Island

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut men's soccer team defeated the College of Staten Island, 6-0, at Jess Dow Field. With the win, the Owls improved to 3-0-1 on the season, while the Dolphins fell to 1-3-0 overall.

How It Happened
  • In the 20th minute, Karim Said (Erlangen, Germany) distributed the ball up to Leroy Best (Bielefeld, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany) on the right side, to Yannick Hilpert (Den Haag, Zuid Holland, Netherlands) on the left side of the goal, who slotted it home for the Owls first goal of the game.
  • Southern's second goal of the game came in the 29th minute as Umberto Catale (Alessandria, Italy) stepped up in the midfield to strip a Staten Island player of the ball and found Murphy Malone (Cheshire, Conn.) breaking on the left side.
  • The Owls struck again in the 38th minute when Arnold Signell (Lindgo, Sweden) found the ball in a scrum in front of the net and scored through traffic.
  • Out of the half, Southern kept their offensive push as Hideki Morales (Bethel, Conn.) collected a rebound, dribbled around the keeper, and scored in the 49th minute, 4-0.
  • Said snagged his second assist of the day with a crafty pass across the goalmouth for Joshi Munoz (New Haven, Conn.).
  • The 81st minute saw the Owls extend their lead to six when Munoz made a tremendous play around a defender and slid it over to a breaking Morales, who knocked it out of mid-air into the goal.
